Australian certificates do contain information, although in my case, these create more questions. in Robert's marriage certificate of 1888, his father is Joseph - farmer. Mother, Eliza nee Healey. His Jan 1915 death certificate (aged 63 10/12)states his father as Thomas, a blacksmith from Manchester. his DC also states he was born in Manchester and been living in Victoria for 31 years. this could also mean he entered Australia in another colony and travelled over land to Melbourne. In March 1885 a 41yo Robert Rowley arrived in melbourne as an unassisted immigrant. In plymouth his profession was listed as Engineer. Then it was crossed out and later entered as a Mason. Any idea why? I haven't been able to find any further details of this man. He has disappeared. No known death records in AUS/NZ. I cannot prove that these two Robert Rowleys are the same. >From all the information we know of his parentage, there is nothing coming up at all. He may had fudged his history as soon as he walked off the ship like your grandfather. we don't know. Colin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Alice was born 27 Nov 1869 to Alfred Dickinson and Elizabeth Ward. On 17 Apr 1900 she married Welshman Daniel Herbert Williams at the Congregational Church at Prescot. She then had a son John Alfred Herbert Williams on 12 May 1901. At this point her trail goes cold. In 1911 her husband, Daniel, married Myfanwy Williams in St Asaph and the newly married couple, with John Alfred Herbert Williams, appear on the 1911 census with Myfanwy's mother in St Asaph. I know John Alfred Herbert Williams marries and dies in South Africa. Main problem is the surname Williams...I cannot identify a death for Alice in the Prescot area between 1901 and 1911. 3. Hi, You wrote "I am researching my great grand father's family (he was Joseph Seddon) who came from Bickerstaffe. I have an original baptism certificate for July 1874 but can't find any record of his birth. I'm having the same problem for his siblings" Lancashire is extremely well provided with free information of this type which is specific to the county, rather than being from national sources. There is the Lancashire Parish Register Society, founded in the late 1800s and still working hard. It now published parish register transcripts in book and CD form, and some of the early ones are available on the internet from other sites. Another site that is transcribing parish registers id the Lancashire On-Line Parish Clerk Project (http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ ) This site is a volunteer project and is a work in progress. It provides a full transcript of the entry in the parish register, but the baptisms and marriages are not yet available for Bickerstaffe Anglican Church (Holy Trinity) only the burials. The third very useful source is LancashireBMD (http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/ ). Again a work in progress and this one is providing copies of the local Registrars' Indexes. It is possible that Joseph was born outside the county and brought 'home' for baptism. or that his birth was not registered for some reason. 1. [LAN] A real conundrum! MIA Annie Robinson nee Fraser Bury, Lancs
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ClDunne27 Surnames: Robinson, Fraser Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52786/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi All, Really need your help tracking someone down on the Manchester and Bury censuses. I have been working on this for quite sometime but have had no luck! Annie Robinson nee Fraser born 1857 Manchester to Joseph Fraser is MIA on the 1861,1871 and 1911 census she also has no birth record!!! She is found on the 1881, 1891, 1901. I would really like to find Annie's birth record and find her on the 1861, 1871 and 1911 census forms. Annie's History and Family Information:- Annie married a William Robinson in 1880, Elton, Bury (I have the marriage cert) William's father was Peter & Grandfather John (Irish). Annie's father was called Joseph Fraser he was a Joiner.(I have a feeling he was Irish too) Annie and William's children were: Edith Ann Robinson (1881) - Odd thing Edith is born in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire! Married Arthur Fletcher Albert Robinson (1888) - Born Elton no record on 1911 census or matching death record. (Possible army record - army number 25187 but cannot be assured it is him). Maud Robinson (1890) - Born Elton Have found various records on the 1911 census for her but none positive. Harry Robinson (1893) - Born Elton Harry was in the Manchester 3rd Regiment between the years of 1910 -1914 - he joined the Canadian Expedition Force in 1914. (I have his sign up papers but no military record for the Manchester Regiment nor the Canadian war record). Harry was married in 1917 and then emigrated to Canada in 1919. As per his papers Harry had a tattoo of an Irish Harp on his forearm showing that he had still strong links to Ireland. 1881- Census: Annie is living with William and her baby Edith. 1891 - Census: Annie is living in Albion St, Elton, Bury. Annie states that she is a widow!!!!! 1893 - Harry Robinson is born - Harry's birth cert states that the father is WILLIAM Robinson. How could this be so? - I don't think William was dead - rather he absconded in 1890 and can be found on his lonesome on the 1891 census in Bury. He may have returned to Annie in 1892! 1894 - Death of William Robinson - record found 1901 - Census: Annie is found living with Edith, Albert, Maud and Harry on Albion St, Bury, she is a widow. 1914 - Harry's 'Attestation Papers' in 1914 states his Next of Kin mother A. Robinson living at 13 Hornby St, Bury. The same address as Annie's daughter - Edith Ann in 1911. I have searched the 1861, 1871 and 1911 census for Annie (under various names). There are possibilities but they don't really match. I also cannot find Harry nor Albert on the 1911 census. I have also talked with several others that match my tree, they are as puzzled and would like to find her too. Harry maybe in the army as he joined voluntarily when he was younger, Albert too or ever emigrated. On searching for Annie's father I have found several Joseph Fraser's on the 1861. Two interest me. Joseph & Annie in 1861 in Heywood and Joseph & Annie in 1841 in Chorley 1841. But neither can be found on other censuses. Plus Annie is not living with them. There are Annie Fraser's over in Liverpool with father as Joseph Fraser (discount this as they can be followed through the census's in Liverpool) Any help would be great- it is a real puzzle. She does not exist before her marriage and then disappears in 1911! Many thanks for any help or advice that can be given .I may have put this out before but got no hits.
