I'm starting to think they that there has to be an error somewhere along the line. Because while all the possibilities mentioned by everyone on this thread are possibly. None fit with the details shown on the marriage certificate. How likely is it that her father's name was recorded incorrectly on the marriage certificate or that her birth wasn't registered full stop? I can't concentrate on any other bit of my tree until I've sorted this. What makes it more confusing is that after Rose Hannah dies in 1906 (I'm assuming in childbirth as a daughter called Rose Hannah is born in 1906) William Garlick goes on to marry another Hannah Blackburn nee Eccles! 1. [LAN] Looking for Rose Hannah Blackburn before her 1888 marriage to William Garlick
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Ailstar Surnames: Blackburn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52799/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to find a record of a Rose Hannah Blackburn (born circa 1867 in Preston) prior to her 1888 marriage to William Garlick. According to her marriage certificate her father is listed as Jno Blackburn and the address listed is 14 St Mary's Street Preston. I can't find a Rose Hannah Blackburn anywhere on any census, I've tried Rose, Rosanna, Rosehannah, Rosannah, and Hannah as well with no luck. I've tried searching for her father with no luck either, I can't find a John or Jonathon Blackburn with a daughter going by any of those names. I've even tried searching through the 1891 and 1881 census by street to see if I can find who was living at 14 St Mary's Street, and while I can find other houses on that street 1-10 and 27 onwards...house number 14 doesn't seem to exist!! It's like these people have appeared out of nowhere! Has anyone had any luck finding either Rose Hannah or John Blackburn or does anyone have any ideas what I can try next?? Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But my mum had 2 of her babies adopted. I was born at the Salvation arm home and my brother at the other home; my mum made reference to catholic Nuns and laundry; so although not particulary helpful . A place did exist in or near Liverpool which was operated by Nuns and the expectant woman did the laundry. In both cases they used Ashton upon tyne or Ashton under lyne not sure spelling. But both me and my brother were ushered by this society. My adopted dad said they were a small adoption society, very helpful where the adoptive parents were concerned and they accepted a large donation and my dad implied that he skipped the national adoption queues. he had to have a vicars reference and then the green light appeared for adoption process to commence in the courts. Obviously the real mother had 6 months clause to cancel the adoption arrangement. This is suprising considering how pushy the Salvation army where to have the child adopted. I have Elizabeth Nixon in my tree, but had not found a record for a father. I also figured out where I was going wrong with the Cheshire BMD, forgot to change the dates :) All of my records for the family say they were born in Manchester, so not sure why they are coming up in a different county. Thanks again. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
