    1. [LAN] Your Lancashire father
    2. Lynne
    3. Hello all Are you out there? Glued to the telly watching the World Cup? Working in the garden? On holiday? It's incredibly quiet on the lists, so I hope that whatever is keeping you away can be put aside for a few minutes. For many of us, Father's Day is Sunday so this is a suitable time for everyone to mention a Lancashire father. Could be a father, grandfather, great grandfather (you get the picture), or a father figure. Perhaps you'd like to post about a man you'd like to honour or a man you'd like to find. Share some history, tell a story, or ask a question. Please post away! I look forward to reading what you have to say. Kindest regards, Lynne list admin.

Have found a Margaret Todd on a passenger ship from England to Canada for 1914. Her destination is the same place as where the marriage took place. This was in 2005 and the letter was on Darlington Borough Council letterhead. The collections officer kindly sent me a copy of the report on the incident. There is still a website for Ken Hoole Study Centre. The email address I was given is museumstudycentre@darlington.gov.uk However this was in 2005 and may have changed. Some issues I'm facing; I'm in Australia so don't have access to libraries. Could the newspapers be archived online? James: my grandfather was young ( in his 30's when he was killed) I have found an index that states Barton as the district of death ( I'm only guessing it's him because other deaths are In their 60's and older) but a search of cemeteries has come up with nothing. I am going to see if there are any coroners reports as suggested and welcome any other areas that people think my be useful. My conclusion is that they have confused the two wives of William Garlick....I am pretty sure that William's second wife Hannah, was a widow who was previously married to a Robert James Blackburn, and that her maiden name was Eccles. I'm pretty sure I came to this conclusion because of the fact that her children have the surname Blackburn, wheras Rosehannah's have the surname Garlick. Also the Hannah's have different birth dates. I agree that Emilie Eccles being a witness to Rosehannah's marriage in 1888 is confusing....I think I explained it away by the fact that these communities were often close-knit and that it is likely that many people had similar surnames and were distantly related. Originally I thought that Hannah Blackburn (2nd wife 1909) was the wife of Rosehannah's brother Robert James but I'm pretty sure I've found his family (father Peter Blackburn) and there is no mention of Rosehannah. I think I might contact the owner of this tree though, just to see what they say. I have also ordered the marriage certificate of Hannah Blackburn and William Garlick (1909) to see if that sheds any more light on who is who! Thanks for the reply :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Now it could be that those trees are incorrect, many are, but it could also be that the owner knows something you don't. Such as she was illegitimate. Contacting the owner seems like a good idea. Since a witness was Emilie Eccles there is probably some connection. And William Garlick marries Hannah Blackburn/Eccles in 1909. Very confusing. A death on the railway would have been reported on, and there would almost certainly have been a coroner's inquest. Try the local library to see if they have newspaper archives, and if they have papers relating to coroner's inquests.
