    3. During the first World War, the Bolton Evening News created a fund to send food parcels to men from Bolton in prison camps in Germany. At the end of the war, there was a surplus which was spent on 21st June 1919 on providing tea and entertainment for returning prisoners of war. His regimental number was 166414, and he attested in Timmins in 1915. It is possible to order a complete copy of the service file from Library and Archives Canada. The website says each file contains about 25-30 pages. The file should tell you where he served and also when he returned from England. There are several possibilities, in 1918 and 1919, but it is very hard to read the service numbers on the records so I am not sure exactly when he came back to Canada. Some possibilities. There is a Canada arrivals form for Sadie Agnes Martin, arriving on the Montclare in April 1924. On it, she says she is going to join her fiance, H.A. Reid, in Timmins, Ontario. You could order the record from the GRO and it would give you more details, if it is the right one. Name: Eileen Martin Mother's Maiden Surname: Martin Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1919 Registration district: Liverpool Inferred County: Lancashire Volume Number: 8b Page Number: 144 It looks as if Sadie and Eileen Martin were scheduled to go to Canada on the Montlaurier in 1923, but their names are crossed off with blue pencil, suggesting they didn't actually travel after all. I have a difficult subject to research. I am trying to find out more about my paternal Grandmother who was from Liverpool, England. In the family almost nothing is known, and we have no records left so I am looking for help on where to get started or how to narrow it down. Here's what I know! Name: Eileen Martin Born: 1919 in Liverpool England Mother's Name: Sarah Martin (maiden name ?) They emigrated to Canada some time after 1919 but relatively soon as the family believed she was a child in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. Her mother remarried and was known as Sarah Reid to the family but I am not sure if she married in Canada upon arriving or if she married in England prior to leaving. And that's all I have unfortunately. I would really really appreciate any leads any one might have or even how I should approach this research. I have done some simple searches but it seems hard to piece together. Help! :) Thanks to all you read this and even more thanks to any help I can receive, Many thanks, Jamie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If the marriage certificate of Sarah and Solomon confirms that Sarah's parents are Barnett and Jane Fraser, then it would seem you probably have many relatives in England, as Barnett Fraser (Frazer, Frazier) and Jane had a large family in Lancashire. I can't find a marriage for Barnett and Jane, and can't find a death record for Barnett, who seems to have died between 1901 and 1911. However, I did find Barnett in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census records, and Jane also in the 1911 census, with variant surname spellings. The spelling of the family surname varied, evidently, from Friezer or Frieser to Fraser or Frazier - these seem like births that match the various census records, from Lancashire BMD. Nothing is known of Sarah's maiden name, and the only relative on record is Mrs. Daniels. I'm guessing that her timeline is about 1890's - 1940's. She and Sarah *may* have been born in Latvia or England. Sarah's husband was from Riga, Latvia (Russia at the time) and originally had the name Saul Abramovitch. What I DO know is that in June 1926, he became a British citizen, and had changed his name to Abramson. In Feb 1927, he was on the Montrose, bound for Canada, to live with his brother-in-law in Toronto. A few months afterwards, Sarah Abramson and her two children sailed on the very same ship, bound for Canada to join her husband. I've seen all three documents, (newspaper clipping of naturalized aliens, and both ship's passenger lists, but what I'm really looking for is Sarah and Yetta's maiden names, and were they originally from England or did they also come from Latvia. Also, Sarah and Saul had to have been married around 1919 or so, as their eldest daughter was 8 or 9. Were they married in England or back home in Latvia? I have no knowledge of who Mrs. Daniels was married to, just that she lived in Broughton as listed in her sister's ship's passenger list in 1927. According to the Embarking document for the ship, her last known address is listed as "c/o C.P.R. Manchester". On the Canadian Passenger list, her closest relative is listed as: "Sister, Mrs. Yetta Daniels, 17 Kent St., Lr. Broughton, M/C". The copy of the page is in the link below: http://interactive.ancestry.ca/1263/CANIMM1913PLIST_20009083... See top line. This is the only evidence I have that she has ANY relatives in England. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
