He died on 1 January 1887 and was born sometime between 1802 and 1805. His wife, Betty (or Elizabeth) died in 1857. He lived his entire life in Fleetwood. He was a farmer and managed to leave a $ 1,000 pound inheritance to his sons, so I would think he had the means to buy himself a headstone. Are there any volunteers in the Fleetwood area who do this type of cemetery look-up? I apologize if I have the wrong message board. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to offer. Have you also checked Scotlands People to see if (a) Bridget died (you can check the indexes using her maiden name) and (b) if William then married a Flora in Scotland? There don't seem to be any matching marriages in England so Scotland would seem to be the only other possibility, unless they didn't actually marry. This includes a Jane Foster born 1899 Liverpool. Other children are Thomas, Margaret, Ellen, Evan, Elizabeth, Marian and Ruth. A possible marriage that would match this census record (which indicates the couple had been married 16 years) would be this one from Lancashire BMD: Marriage Indexes Surname Forename(s) Spouse's Surname Spouse's Forename(s) Year Church / Register Office Registers At Region FOSTER Thomas BOYLE Ellen 1895 Everton, St. Timothy Liverpool Lancashire 2133WD/2/190 This seems to be the same marriage on FreeBMD: Marriages Mar 1895 Boyle Ellen W. Derby 8b 462 However, what seems to be the same family in the 1901 census gives the mother's name as Margaret; in that census, there are three children in the family - Thomas, Margaret and Jane. They were living in Rokeby Street in Everton. If you order Jane's marriage certificate, it will give you her parents' names, which is the only way to be certain. Marriages Sep 1918 Foster Jane Harding W.Derby 8b 1077 Harding Frederick Foster W. Derby 8b 1077 There are a number of births in West Derby where the father's surname is Harding and mother's name is Foster, going from 1921 to 1933. So those may possibly be children born to Frederick and Jane. There is additionally one birth in 1936 in Liverpool, which may possibly be your mother's birth. Her father Thomas Foster was a miller at that time. Her mother was called Ellen Foster on the baptism record. They lived at 8 Newton Terrace Everton at the time of the baptism. Newton Terrace was a court that used to be off Rokeby Street Everton. Thomas Foster married Ellen Boyle on 31 Mar 1895 at St Timothy C of E church (Rokeby Street)in Everton. Thomas aged about 22 was a labourer living at 36 China Street Everton. His father Jonas Foster was a mason. Ellen Boyle was aged about 25 of 38 Langsdale Street Everton. Her father Hugh Boyle was a carter. The marriage witnesses were James Girvin and Frances Diable. On the 1901 Census they are living at Court 6, House 8, Rokeby Street Everton which is actually another name for 8 Newton Terrace. Newton Terrace being an alternate name for Court 6. Thomas is aged 28, a mill hand, born in Liverpool. Wife Ellen is listed as Margaret for some reason probably a mistake, aged 30, born in Liverpool. Children were Thomas (6), Margaret (3) and Jane (1) all born in Liverpool. On the 1911 Census they are living at 11 Hibbert Street Everton. Thomas aged 37 is a labourer in an oil mill, wife Ellen is aged 39 she has had 8 children all of them living with them:- Thomas who is also a labourer in an oil mill (16), Margaret (14), Jane (12), Ellen (10), Evan (7), Elizabeth (5), Marian (3) and Ruth (3 months). All born Liverpool. I just had a look at the free search feature on Scotlands People (it costs credits to look at records) and it shows one match each in the Births, Marriages and Deaths. It's not possible to know without looking at the actual records but that suggests that maybe it was the same person. Also, nothing pops up for Bridget Peters in the free search feature. I gather from some discussion on Rootschat that William and Lily Gibson moved to Wrexham in Wales, so this may be the parish record of his burial. Wales, Denbighshire Parish Registers Name: William Moore Gibson Event Type: Burial Event Date: 08 Nov 1951 Event Place: Brymbo, Denbighshire, Wales Age: 55 Birth Year (Estimated): 1896 Kind regards, Rosemary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Please could anyone steer me in the correct direction as I am looking for:- ALICE THOMPSON b Circa 1810 d. 29 Jul 1882 Age 72 in Fylde ( I have death cert) I have found her on all Censuses between 1841 & 1881 1841 Age 30 1851 Age 40 b. Houghton Name now Sharples as married 1846 1861 Age 53 b. Blackburn 1871 Age 63 b. Houghton 1881 Age 71 b. Hoghton I have searched LANCS OPC, FreeREG and Family Search (IGI) and cannot find her birth. I searched for the whole county but nothing. Has anyone any suggestions as to what I can do as I am now at my wits ends. On her marriage certificate it says her father was Joseph Thompson and on the Censuses it appears her Mother is Esther. I can find a marriage between a Joseph Thompson and an Esther Fox In Caton, which could be her parents. As I am not local I am not sure if these areas are all near each other. Googled some of the names, but with villages changing names, merging Parishes etc I have found it all very confusing. Any help whatsoever would be very welcome. Many thanks Linda
