The 1851 census you mention is the right census for Henry which my friend has along with the death. Thank you very much for the marriage, if Henry was born 1820 or 1821 this could indeed be his parents. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi, Vern, You seek help with a Preston marriage and you provide the details from LancsBMD, which are helpful. Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1859 CRANGLE Edward KIRBY Elizabeth Preston Register Office or Registrar Attended Preston PRESTON/27/112 This shows that the marriage was solemnised in the Registrar's Office or in a non-Anglican chapel. Between 1837 and 1898, marriages in non-Anglican chapels, Unitarian, Baptist, Methodist, RC, etc, were recognised in law provided the Registrar was in attendance and made the record for the state. In 1898, non-Anglican chapels were permitted to appoint an Authorised Person to act for the Registrar and maintain the civil registers. Many of the Free Church congregations availed themselves of this facility but some, particularly the RCs, were slow to act. The RC s generally adopt this practice from about 1970. The early Catholic Registers for Preston have been transcribed and published by the Catholic Family History Society on a CD. These are the records for St Wilfrid and St Mary which was the earliest RC mission in the town. There was only one mission but it used the two chapels at different times. There is NO record of this marriage on the CD. The original registers are still with the parish priest. There were two other RC chapels in the town by 1859, St Ignatius, and St Walburge. I think the only way to find the details you seek, and the chapel in which the marriage took place is to purchase the certificate. Very puzzling. Finally, I turned to Family Search and put in a search for Ann Fleetwood, parents Henry and Kezia, and found a marriage in Boston in 1887. So I wondered if the whole family had emigrated, and I did find a possible US 1870 census record. The 1870 US census record shows: Henry Fleetwood, born 1841 England. Eliza Fleetwood, born 1848 England Henry Fleetwood, born 1868 England Ann Fleetwood, born 1866 England They were living in New York Ward 19 District 8, New York, New York in 1870. Henry's occupation was insurance agent. In the English records, there is a Keziah Skelding born about 1848, who in 1861 is a servant in the Haycox household in Worcestershire. She was born in Pensax, Worcestershire. There is a possible family match with Thomas Skelding, born about 1807 in Pensax, who was a coal miner and also seemed to give his children Biblical names. I noted that Keziah was a minor at the time of her marriage to Henry in 1865, which would seem to mean she was born after 1844. The Eliza in the New York record would seem to match. However, I don't see a birth record for a Keziah in FreeBMD. Family Search brought up the marriage of an Annie E. Fleetwood, born 1866, parents Henry and Kezia, to Norman B. St. Clair, an English architect, in Boston, Massachusetts on 12 September 1887. Norman was born about 1866 in Banbury, Gloucestershire, and in 1881, his family was living in the civil parish of Edgbaston in Warwickshire. Norman evidently arrived in the US in 1887 - also the year of his marriage, and it appears he and Annie lived in Massachusetts for some time as their first son Aubrey Fleetwood St Clair was born there in July 1889. They travelled back to England in 1891, and then settled in Los Angeles, California. He began naturalization proeedings in 1895 and when he received his naturalization certificate in Los Angeles, California, in 1905, and the witness for him was a Henry Fleetwood. Despite listing her parents as Henry and Kezia, however, Annie stated on her US passport application that she had been born in London, rather than Liverpool, so this may be a red herring :) However, if any of this sounds like it might be a possibility, I am happy to send on the records that I found. Just send me a private message with your email address. Kind regards, Rosemary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
