He had a shoe shop in Barrow in Furness in the 50s and 60s at the top of Dalton Road called 'G JONES. QUALITY FOOTWEAR'. I seem to recall he lived in Great Urswick, nr Ulverston, next door to the General Burgoyne Public House. I also seem to recall his wife, Ina, passing away. Years later he moved away from the area and remarried. Any information would be most welcome if anyone remembers him or his situation. Thanks in anticipation. I did however find that the census was inconsistent as in 1841 Robert was 30 and Betty his wife was also 30 but then in 1851 Robert was 43 and Betty was 44, 1881 census he is back to being 71 and betty 75. Thanks for letting me know about finding John's baptismal record. I have had my tree on ancestry for about 4 years now and have added a lot of information to this line. I found the same baptismal record as you as well as a second one that is a scanned copy of the page that his Bishop's Record is on. This page show that his DoB was 12 Nov 1810 and that the baptism took place in the main Manchester Cathedral, or as the record reads: Cathedral and Collegiate Church of St. Mary, St. Denys and St. George. I saved both of these sources to his record in my tree. The Frederick Bentley that you found would have to be a brother to John, but there is something just a little off with the information you found - either his date of birch is off or his age at the time of his death is off. If he was 22 at the time of his death on 18 Dec 1838 than his birth had to have occurred sometime on or after 19 Dec 1815 and on or before 17 Dec 1816, vice the 1812 date. If is birth occurred sometime in 1812 the his age would have been something like 26. The only child of Edward and Hannah that I had was John, my 3rd great-grandfather, so I added a record for him. When I did I got 3 hits on ancestry for him: England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index, 1837-1915; England, Select Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991 and Lancashire, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1986. All of these sources stated that he was buried on 18 Dec 1838 and that he was 22. From what I know about deaths and burials around this timeframe, most burials occurred with-in 24 hours of death. So there is a chance that his death occurred on the 17th. It is kind of strange that in both cases, John and Fredrick, that their mother, Hannah, was the only parent listed. Today Salford, is basically a part of the city of Manchester, it sits on the west side. So back in the early 1800s the two towns could have been just a few miles apart. I have no clue as to where it came from, but I have Salford as the place of birth of both Edward and Hannah. My line came down to me from Frederick Bentley b: 20 Sep 1834 in Salford, Lancashire, England d: 7 Nov 1912 in Parowan, Iron, Utah; my 2nd great-grandfather. Please let me know if you would like to email me. Dan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The only way I knew about this long lost branch of my family (my Lomas who married the Fahey) is that I purchased birth, marriage and death certificates and was thus able to cobble the tree branch I posted. And in turn, all who are related in some fashion to me, took my info and posted on their own tree. Am at the end of what I can easily find or purchase, in that there are no UK census after 1911 for me to look at and I want to find the living descendants, that is if any are out there. Hope so. Am looking for a Fahey, Cummings, and or Crossby branch who I hope may still be on this side of the sod! I have photos and info to share with them. Its so sad that I've a trunk full of photos, so many we have no idea who they are. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
