    1. [LAN] High Court Records of Scotland
    2. Lynne
    3. I was reading a blog about High Court Records in Scotland, as one does, and came across an interesting bit which I've never thought about: in addition to the info about the criminal him/herself, the records frequently contain victim names and other information which might be relevant to research in other locations. For example, a quick search of the records for Lancashire came up with 618 hits, Manchester resulted in 1241 hits, Lincolnshire 195 hits, Durham 1335 hits, Wiltshire 123 hits, and Yorkshire 871 hits. The blog is an interesting read and can be found at https://tinyurl.com/yyptnomt Information about and instructions for searching the High Court records can be found at <https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/research/guides/high-court-criminal-trials> and the search screen can be found at <http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue/search.aspx>. Because my ancestors all led exemplary lives and were never victims of crimes <g>, I didn't find any mention of them after a quick search, but maybe you'll get lucky. Here's hoping. Lynne

    3. It gets complicated with the different periods of counties. I was initially looking for a North Wales list, some of the "real" county ones have been removed but in some places the "new" county lists have been removed instead. I normally prefer the "real" counties, like Lancashire. But in those cases the newer ones are larger so allow the post to refer to a wider area which often fits better with the movement of ancestors. In this area, the Bolton list is much quieter than in the past but it is often much more productive in getting results than LANCSGEN. 3. Peter -- Sorry, I should have explained, that if you were unaware of the records on Ancestry (and you do subscribe) -- you can find them by going to the Card Catalogue and typing 'Lancashire Baptisms' (or marriages or burials as the case may be. Options with dates split at 1813 will appear. Select your option and then just complete the search box. If you want to check the parishes covered - go to 'Browse this collection' on the right hand side of the screen - a list of included parishes will appear. You can then complete the search box if your parish is listed. Be aware that some places such as Bury, Bolton, Rochdale, Newchurch in Rossendale are included in the Manchester collection -- in which case just type in Manchester baptisms (or marriages or burials). Liverpool also has it's own collection. Regards June

Hi Peter You cannot baptise the dead Hence why you have some private baptisms where the child was thought unlikely to live before being able to get to a church So there must be some other reason for your problem, transcription? wrong child? 3. All, I know that this is a strange question, but here goes: Were babies (born in Lancashire) ever baptized after they had died? I am trying to reconcile the following pair of Lanc OPC entries that appear to suggest that: 1.
