    3. Lets hope you don't have to wait to long And that you haven't done what I did ;-) In my excitement at the drop in price I ordered seven wills that came to mind In my haste I have ordered two I have already purchased :-( And of course they came first Two others so far received have told me nothing I didn't already know (but had to get to find that out) Of the three remaining three, one is for my g.g.g.grandmother whose will I ordered several years ago but it did not come with the will, just the grant, on enquiring they said I had to reorder it now in the hope the will has turned up So all in all so far its not been a resounding success so far ;-) But at least its affordable at £1.50, I wouldn't have ordered them at ten pounds each Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 15/08/2019 11:34, Stuart Phethean via LANCSGEN wrote: > Thanks Nivard. 3. Hi Stuart, I ordered 7 wills on 22 July, all with an estimated delivery date of 6 Aug. They arrived in dribs and drabs between 31 July and 14 Aug. There was no correlation between the dates of death and the delivery of the wills. I think it reflects the popularity of the new pricing, I'm sure it will settle down over time. I placed an order on 21 July and have not had anything yet. The web site says estimated delivery day 7 August, but there s nothing available to download yet. 3. Morning Stuart, I think it is as Nivard suggests they are overloaded, I ordered 6 Wills on 23rd July, so far I have 2 back one from 1977 the other from 1920, I am still waiting for Wills from 1942, 1954, 1933 and 1935. I have tried to phone recorded message number out of order, so I sent in an email query and as yet have had no reply! I agree - I'm still waiting for mine, ordered on 23 July, "estimated" delivery 7 August. I'm just sitting patiently. No point doing anything else. My wild guess would be that someone calculated the costs of producing the wills at the previous price, decided they were making a handsome profit and thought that this wasn't on. Possibly they're not supposed to be a profit-maker at all? So they reduced the price to its current value. Of course, demand rockets so I suspect that someone's going to be working over-time to clear the back-log so the costs might be going up for them - what will that mean for the price to us? Hmmm Though it's probably not sensible for them to start messing about with their prices until demand settles down... I am slightly annoyed to find my credit-card has been charged already but it's hardly bank breaking... Adrian

    3. The next meeting of the LFHHS Pendle & Burnley Branch will take place on Wednesday 21st August in the usual venue, the upstairs meeting room at Colne Library BB8 0AP. The August speaker is Gail Newsham who will be speaking about "Pride of Preston, The Dick, Kerr Ladies".  She is the official biographer of this famous ladies' football team formed in a munitions factory in 1917 to raise money for wounded soldiers from the Western Front.  They went on to become the most successful women's football team ever, playing before crowds of thousands. Then the FA banned them from playing on their grounds in 1921, although the team carried on playing until 1965. There is an excellent website: www.dickkerrladies.com <http://www.dickkerrladies.com> The talk starts at 7.30pm - doors open at 7pm so there will be a chance to chat to other members and perhaps ask for help with any problems you have come across in your research. All welcome. The meeting room is upstairs but there is a lift available. The full address is Colne Library, Market Street, Colne, Lancashire, BB8 0AP. Please note: Colne Library closes to the public at 6pm. The meeting room is accessed via the rear entrance facing the car park which has no restrictions in the evenings. This door is locked once the talk begins (7.30pm) for security reasons, so please try to arrive in good time. See the website http://www.lfhhs-pendleandburnley.org.uk for further information. Application forms to join the Society will be available - please just ask. -- Colin Spiller colin@thespillers.org.uk

    3. The latest issue of the Catholic FHS journal “Catholic Ancestor” has information about the Nugent Care organisation. This was (and is) the central organisation for the Catholic social care services in the Archdiocese of Liverpool. Its origins are in the mid-1800s when Fr. James Nugent dedicated his life in Liverpool to caring for children in need. His work eventually provided residential accommodation, schools, industrial schools, care homes and hospitals. The historic records of this organisation have been transferred to the Sheppard-Worlock Collection at Hope University, Liverpool, and have been indexed. The collection is open to readers but as it is a special collection an appointment is required, see https://archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/search/archives/165c09f0-0b92-385a-bb9e-967bd20ddd00 Another useful source is in the Liverpool Record Office. Lists of names of children assisted by the Nugent Society have been deposited in this Record office and are available for consultation. http://archive.liverpool.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=364+CAT&pos=3 Today, the Archdiocese of Liverpool includes the Hundreds of West Derby and Leyland, but prior to the formation of the Diocese of Lancaster (ca 1935) it also included all the northern Hundreds of Lancashire, Amounderness and Lonsdale South and North of the Sands. Hope this helps, Jim Lancaster (Bury, Lancs.)

    3. Hi all, Having taken advantage of the lower prices for Wills, I’m now getting around to transcribing them and have a query. I have come across several parts referring to mortgages where the form of the text is as follows, “subject to the mortgage thereon to William Powell for securing to him the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds and interest at four pounds ten shillings per centum per annum”. I’m assuming that it says, “ten shillings per centum per annum”, but ‘centum’ is hard to read. Looking online I assume the word is centum and that this means that the yearly interest is £4 per every £100. So for £150 it would be £6. Am I correct? Regards, Howard
