    3. No - all sorts of possibilities, I guess, but being a non-conformist might be one - a church graveyard just might have an unconsecrated area for non-conformists - though this may be unusual??? I notice that you don't say which graveyard - burials in municipal or privately owned cemeteries were habitually split (at least) between Cof (consecrated) and "the rest" (unconsecrated) so you need to be certain exactly what sort of a burial ground we're talking about. If you do a Google on the topic, you'll probably find all sorts of discussions putting more detail on than my fallible memory can. 3. Norman, there are many lists and message boards devoted to discussion about DNA (http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/DNA/). You might start out by subscribing and posting to the DNA-NEWBIE list. See http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/DNA/DNA-NEWBIE.html I'm sure someone on that list can give you guidance. 3. Hi Norman, I have thought of trying the DNA matching but have been put off by hearing of the number of possible connections most people get. I have lots of distant cousins on my family tree but none have got any further back than I have with our MENZIES ancestors so I think it would be very unlikely that an even more distant relation would have any new information on the family. I'd be inclined to just keep a log of the names and contact details in case I ever found a stronger link to them. Good luck with your research, Dot Dot Holden MENZIES HELSBY HARRISON BARTON BIBBY in Lancashire On Wed, Mar 15, 2017 at 6:48 PM, Norman Ashton <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello Fellow Listers, > I feel very fortunate to be able to trace my line in Lancashire back 10 > generations. 3. Hi Mike Could you perhaps help I have an ancestor called Alfred John Preece who was sent to Canada in 1923 as many children were. I know the ship he went on in 1923. RMS Scythia and I found the passenger list for that. He came back to England either in 1939 or 1940 on a ship called the Matoroa to Liverpool. He lived at Halifax Nova Scotia in the Fair View Homes. He joined the Canadian Army just before the 2nd World War. Is it possible that you could look on the Canadian census (not sure when they were) and check were he was before his return to England and also the passenger list. He sailed on the 6th of April either 1939 or 1940. I know it's a tall order. hope you can help. Many thanks. 3. Canadian census records are only available to 1916 (although apparently the 1921 census is available through ancestry.ca) http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx Either way, they predate your Alfred John Preece coming to Canada so he won't be listed. Census records are released by the gov at once they hit 100 years old so you might have to wait a decade before the 1926 census records become available On 03/08/2017 10:18 AM, john lindley wrote: > Hi Mike > Could you perhaps help > I have an ancestor called Alfred John Preece who was sent to Canada in > 1923 as many children were. 1. [LAN] Alfred John Price
    2. N NASH
    3. John you were asking about your relative Alfred but did not say if you had done much research into his being sent to Canada. Are you aware of the British Home Children's Advocacy and Research Association? They may be of assistance. Also look for the Halifax Genealogical Society as they may have Halifax Directories for the mentioned time period. It might be a slow process but could possibly bring results. Best of luck. Noreen

    3. Hi Linda The records on familysearch are a mixture, not all have images available as yet As a test try this to see the difference Go to familysearch, select search then select Browse all published collections Wait for it to load (a few seconds) Enter Lancashire in the search box You will get two hits England, Lancashire, Oldham Cemetery Registers, 1797-2004 England, Lancashire, Parish Registers 1538-1910 You will see a small camera icon on the left of the first one which tells you there are images When you select Oldham Cemetery Registers you will see a search page where you can search the transcribed records but also under the blue search box at the foot of the page :- View Images in this Collection Browse through 45,387 images The same applies to any County or Country you search for, some will have a lot more than others at the present time but its increasing all the time The above is only the records available online, transcribed or browsable (some are only browsable not transcribed) ==================== Then try this At the top of the page is a row of categories, one is Catalog (Americans can't spell ;-) Select Catalog Then search for Lancashire (you will see it comes up with a green selectable category) select that and search You will then be presented with a huge list of records available from the LDS for Lancashire (but not all as yet available online) Hopefully they will all be available online at some point in the future but that is a long way off as yet All of the above can be ordered in to an LDS FHS centre in your area (if you have one close enough) there is a fee for ordering the film in You cam repeat all of the above for any County or Country to see what they have Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 06-Mar-17 11:45 PM, Linda wrote: > I'm not seeing any actual images just transcribed records.
