    3. Hi Ron, > I am looking for information on my 3x Great Grandfather William Faulkner's parents William's birth about 1797 Baycliff, Lancashire Married Margret Martindale 11 Jun 1819 Died 11 Mar 1879any info will be appreciated I believe your ancestor to have been christened William FEIGHTNEY. He was born 13 Aug 1796 at Baycliff and christened at Aldingham on 18 Sep 1796. This family surname (all within the same nuclear family!) is spelled in multiple ways over just a few years in the parish registers: Fackney - Faukney - Feightney - Feighney - Feighnay - Feikne - Feckney - Feickney - Fightney….! I believe it to have been originally a Celtic name (likely FACTNA) that was difficult for English speaking church officials to get their heads around. They wrote it as they heard it. William's grandfather and grandmother are my 5X GGrandparents which would likely make you and me 6th cousins. I 'm happy to provide further information about William's parents and grandparents. Feel free to email me off list. In the past, I have been in touch with another researcher of this line in which the name also morphed into Faulkner. Take care, Lorraine

    3. Hi John, Thanks for your interest. Yes, more questions than answers, but looking at the available Death Indexes I cannot find another Marcus Abraham/s Abrams living or deceased of similar age. Open to any suggestions at present. His age could have been incorrect, as he was not found with immediate family during the census years and he was "old" to other occupiers I guess. I hope the lady for whom I was enquiring, will actually buy the DC I have suggested, if not to at least eliminate one of them. 3. Hi Kerry, Thanks so much for your help. I hadn’t given NY a thought, but although I can’t find Lottie getting there, I also found a John Louis Lyons burial on the same site, stating parents John Lewis Lyons and Hannah Davis, who died in NY aged 61 yrs. 1916. He states he was born in NY, but all a bit of a mystery at present. I thought John Lewis Lyon/s would be easy to trace, but there were a few of them both in England and US. As I’m only doing this for curiosity and trying to help another, I am not buying certificates, which I would not hesitate in doing if this was my own research. Even in the case of Lottie Lyon marrying in NY……I did find a Charlotte Lyon born in Manchester in 1851 and living with George and Martha Lyon in Manchester in 1861 as their daughter. I can’t find Hannah remarried, on with the search. Fun and games this genealogy hobby…… Cheers, Robyn From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, April 17, 2017 8:49 AM To: Robyn Clarke; [email protected] Subject: RE: [LAN] Elizabeth Davis Ulverston Mystery Hi Robyn On Family Search, there is a daughter Lottie Lyon marrying in Manhattan New York in 1872 so maybe they went to the US. At the same address are two other apparently unrelated people, bearing in mind no relationships or birthplaces are given in 1941. Have you followed up on this other Elizabeth? Bearing in mind that relationships were more fluid in terms of their descriptions in the past (cousin could mean any close relation, step-son and son-in-law were often the same thing) do you think that grandfather was actually a step grandfather who had married the children's grandmother after she was widowed? I have eventually found the census entries you mention (FMP have transcription error on surname) and note that John Lyon was also a tailor so that might be the connection either by family or training. Marcus's birthplace looks like Old... possibly Gateshead? Not really much help to you but I tried! 3. I am looking for ELIZABETH DAVIS born abt. 1835 Canterbury, Kent - living in Ulverstone Lancashire in 1851 census with married sister, Hannah Lyon 21 yrs., who states she was born in Liverpool. As well a Grandfather, MARCUS ABRAHAM as a retired Tailor is living with them. So how does he become a Grandfather to this family.....the Davis side or the Lyon side?? In 1841 same fellow it appears is living in Dukinfield with David Davis 16 and Priscilla Davis 13 their places of birth difficult to determine. I have found an Index of a Marriage of Hannah Davis and John Lewis Lyon in 1849 Salford....but no indication as to who the girls' parents were. Thus I cannot find Elizabeth Davis after 1851 and would dearly love to find her. I believe Hannah Lyon died in 1854 Manchester district as I can't find any member of this family after 1851 census. Any help would be much appreciated.......not my family......trying to unravel a puzzle for another and hope a new set of eyes spots something positive. 3. Hello Robyn True both were born abroad and both have Davis relatives but how sure are you that Marcus Abraham aged 80 in 1851 is the same person as Marcus Abrams aged 60 in 1841? Can I assume that you are using Ancestry? If you are confident that one or the other age is incorrect have you entered a correction? Afraid you asked us to spot something positive and I have found something negative but it would be as well to clear this up. 1. [LAN] John GODBEHERE
    2. J PEPPERDINE
    3. I became involved in this story through my One Name Study of PEPPERDINE and had begun to investigate Annie Pepperdine Wood GODBEHERE. She was the illegitimate daughter of Harriet WOOD and a PEPPERDINE. Born in Lincoln 1853 before her mother married John GODBEHERE. But this is probably not relevant to the problem which follows. John GODBERHERE was baptised 17 Dec 1835 in Swineshead, Lincolnshire. He appears on census returns as follows: 1841 John GODBEHERE 1835 1851 John GODBEAR 1839 1861 John GODBYHIRE 1835 and his wife Harriett GODBY 1836 Lincoln St Botolph 1871 John GODBY 1837 1881 John GODBEHERE 1836 All other Public family trees on Ancestry show him as having married only once He first married Harriet WOOD in Lincoln 1855 and was an engine driver presumably employed by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. We think her death is recorded in Chorlton Registration District in 1866 as Harriet GODLEY. He then married Harriet BEAUMONT in Lincoln 1877 and became an Inn Keeper. Everything made sense until we eventually found the 1871 census. Are these all John’s children? isn't he a little young to be father of Henry? He may have been an engine driver by 1861 but not much earlier than that surely. I cannot think of any way to solve this problem without sight of the Failsworth registers. As Sarah herself was born in Failsworth the earlier children are probably hers but without a surname I cannot think of a way to search for them. So far I have only found a registration in one case, Selina’s birth is registered as GODBHER and the GRO index says her mother’s name was SHADWELL. John Pepperdine ( a very distant relative )

    3. The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, Nova Scotia, April 14, 2017 Malcolm Johnson Johnson, Malcolm - It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Malcolm Johnson, age 65, on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Malcolm was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Malcolm passed at Saint Vincent's Nursing Home, in Halifax, after a six year battle with early on-set dementia; he was surrounded by his loving family when he took his final breath. Malcolm was born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK on February 20, 1952. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Dorothy (Standish) Johnson and his brother David. Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margie (Dorey) Johnson, children, Andrew (Tammy) Johnson, Halifax, NS, Erin (Craig) Steeves, Mount Uniacke, NS and Laurie (Patrick) Dorey, Belleville, ON, as well as his three precious grandchildren, Shane and Sarah Steeves and Charles Dorey. He is also survived by his brother, Philip Johnson, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK. Malcolm had a wonderful zest for life and everyone was witness to his beautiful British humour and wit. Malcolm was a keen runner, bicyclist, motorcyclist, amateur photographer and was able to turn his hand to just about anything. Most of all, Malcolm was known for his devotion and love for his family as well as his pets. To honour Malcolm, please simply be a good person. Donations in Malcolm's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia. Please no flowers, at request of the family. Malcolm has donated his brain to the Maritime Brain Tissue Bank for research into this disease that robbed us of him over six years ago. Malcolm's last week was one of complete love and compassion and the care he received was the best of the best. We have become very close with his caregivers and we wish to especially thank the truly wonderful staff of the 5th Floor. Malcolm, we have mourned you every day since your diagnosis, and now we grieve your passing. Your infectious smile and that twinkle in your eye will be engrained in our hearts and memories forever. She could have died in infancy so not have shown up in your researches. The fact that she is the third daughter fills in the gap between the 1788 marriage and her birth in 1798. There are a couple of Liverpool baptisms in the intervening period. LAN-OPC shows five more Wigan baptisms to John and Diana from 1800 to 1809 all these are at St John RC church.
