Hi, Just to let you know, I now have a copy of this article :o)) I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier but my sudden insight (DOH!) - why not try to email the library ;o) Their actual email address took some finding but I sent them a query with all the details and a copy of the article photo. In just a couple of weeks they tracked down the article and sent me a copy image. I now have the full text of the very interesting article along with the photo caption, identifying each brother. Needless to say, I am extremely impressed and grateful to the wonderful lady at the library who took the time to do this for me. Thank you Nivard , will get son to try for me . I am loath to throw the disc's out as they contain so much more information than the Ancestry transcription . AS are the IGI records . In the early days of being posted to the internet the system broke down at least twice and each time in a hurry to get back on line a lot of information was left out Which proves always go back to original records if at all possible . Is there any way to revive my S & N disc's . I bought the Lancs 1851 & 1861 prior to being available on Ancestry . they will not load to my new computer . Have to admit nor my previous computer . They proved much more reliable for research than the Ancestry version and I am loath to ditch if at all possible Had a technican yesterday to clear the many virus that appeared the day before , fortunately nothing serious and he was unable to load these discs. I had found this wonderful site ( aren't they all ) for knitting patterns and that is how the viruses entered my system . Going through old records recently re discovered 45 pages of IGI records I had on my Lancs family . A reread of these proved very interesting . I am looking for Haslingdon PIERCE family and on these records found that the early ancestors appeared to be Methodist and not the C of E that the later family became . Hence not being able to find a marriage about 1802/4 . Census show first few b Haslingdon , then the family moved to Chorley . Lancs online parish clerks have so far not transcribed Methodist records for Haslingdon . Anyone able to help here please . Shirley NZ

Extremely late notice of what might be a rather informative talk, but just found out about it myself: The British Newspaper Archive webinar, a live presentation, entitled "Making the most of the British Newspaper Archive," will air today at 4pm BST. "In this webinar, Aoife O Connor [Data Development Manager, British Newspaper Archive] will show you how to get the most out of the website. Learn search tips and tricks, discover the special features of the site, and find out how historic newspapers can break down genealogical brick walls and bring the history of your hometown to life. " Sounds like a very useful presentation. If you're unable to attend the webinar at that time, there will be an opportunity to listen to the recording. See http://ow.ly/A0YS30bPufb for registration and more information. Lynne

Hi Shirley The S&N Cds of the census were pdfs were they not ? So if you use explorer to find the pdfs on the CD they should open If you can locate and open in a pdf viewer, you could also copy them to your hard drive If you cannot interrogate the contents of the CDs it suggests they are fried I am afraid I have had similar problems with some census CDs Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 17-May-17 10:17 PM, jayaness wrote: > Is there any way to revive my S & N disc's . Hi Everyone Can some kind person on the list please help me with a research problem. My GGGGG Grandfather, Richard Prescott, was a boatman in Haskayne/Downholland. Some time between 1792 and 1795, he became a publican/inn keeper and remained so until his death in 1809 in Downholland. A few years ago, I was in Lancashire and had lunch at The Ship Inn at Haskayne. I have wondered since if that as where my ancestor was. I understand that the Inn dates back to about 1750. Is there a way for me to research all he landlords of the Ship Inn back to about 1795? I have sent a facebook message to the Inn asking if they have knowledge of its history and am awaiting a reply. Any guidance/assistance would be very much appreciated. Thank you Vern in Ontario, Canada
