    3. Hi Stuart For starters, are you sure you have found burials? or are they from a monumental inscription? Monuments often carry names for people buried elsewhere The only Douglas I came across is in Eccleston, and comes under Prescot for civil registration, however as has been said, the "Douglas" may be a usual residence rather than the place of death If the rest of the family survived Charles have you found them in the 1901 & 1911 census ? 3. Stuart It always helps with these to quote your sources. I assume that you are talking about "Sale Cemetery" in the greater Manchester collection on Deceased online? I also assume that you have looked at the full records to ensure that they are in fact all buried in the same plot. Also your original email has Charles's age in 1900 as 30 but the one in the indexes in 1902 is 58. Distance at that time was not really an option. A lot of people in London are buried in Brookwood cemetery in Woking Surrey and there was a special train service that ran to take the mourners and coffin there. Also remember that burial registers are only as good as the person giving the information and what goes in there is often their normal place of residence not where they died. Had you thought that Douglas might refer to the Isle of Man? Check out https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Isle_of_Man_Civil_Registration if it is the Isle of Man then it would not be in the England/Wales records As you say you could not bury someone without a death certificate There is an alternative to GRO indexes in the UKBMD projects and specifically LancashireBMD but it is far from complete being up to the individual registrar as to whether they participate. Have a look at http://lancashirebmd.org.uk Regards John Hanson, researcher, the Halsted Trust, http://www.halstedresearch.org.uk New family history conference in 2018 http://www.secretlives.org.uk -----Original Message----- From: LANCSGEN [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Stuart Adam Sent: 27 September 2017 00:21 To: [email protected] Subject: [LAN] Charles McQueen I hope this is the right list for this query - I am researching descendants of John McQueen [MacQueen] who migrated from Renfrewshire in the 1860s and son Charles McQueen is troubling me. 3. Hi Bill, Further to my thoughts on the JOHNSON/BOOT connection; I found a marriage at St Mary the Virgin, Eccles on Oct 26, 1836 between William JOHNSON and Margaret FOGG which may or may not be significant. I’m going to bed now... ttys David

    3. Thanks all for the thoughts and suggestions. Quite sure of the names as I have birth records for their children- Harriet 1862 (my G grandmother), Thomas 1866, Eliza 1869, Agnes 1871 and Susannah 1874. The Eliza Boot born in 1843 in Thomas's younger sister. Her and his parents are Reuben Boot and Elizabeth "Johnson" just o add to the confusion. Always a chance they just started to live together and didn't bother to get married?? Thanks- Bill in Montana

    3. Hi there, The other interesting piece of possible evidence found in GRO, shows eldest daughter HARRIET BOOT registered M Quarter, 1862 Manchester as BOOTH Mother's Maiden name JOHNSON. Then Harriet is found with her parents in 1871 census aged 10 yrs. She marries 21st February, 1881 after Banns a CHARLES CAMPBELL at St. Thomas C of E Parish Church Red Bank, Manchester, which does not reflect an RC connection, her Father is named as Thomas Boot, Sweeper. I cannot find any earlier children to Thomas and Agnes than 1862. Cheers Robyn --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
