    3. Hi Sue, Can't help you with the names in the marriage register but with a surname of Kneill, FreeBMD throws up only one Albert E Kneill - Albert Edward Kneill birth registered in the June quarter 1888 in the Preston Registration District. LancashireOPC has the following baptism: Baptism: 17 Jun 1888 St Michael, Hoole, Lancashire, England Albert Edward Kneill - Son of Charles William Avent Kneill & Ann Holmes     Born: 7 May 1888     Abode: Much Hoole     Occupation: Station Master     Baptised by: E.N.Dunne Rector     Register: Baptisms 1836 - 1900, Page 168, Entry 1337     Source: LDS Film 1471151 Hoole is 6 or 7 miles south west of Preston and Hoole (Little and Much) fell within the Preston RD. It's a leap of faith to say this is the right person without further proof but it's worth buying the marriage certificate to confirm Albert's age and his father's name. Hope this helps. Cheers, Bob > If anybody has access to marriage records for St Matthews Preston, would > appreciate fathers names from marriage of Annie Buxton to Albert E Kneill > September qtr 1914 > > Thanks in advance > > Sue

    1. [LAN] MLFHS Bolton & District FHS meeting Wednesday October 4th
    2. Lynne
    3. >From Bolton & District FHS branch of MLFHS: Basically we have had Bad News and then received Good News We are sorry to have to announce that our booked speaker Gail Newsham, who was coming to tell us about the “Dick, Kerr Ladies Football Team” contacted us a few days ago, apologising profusely, but informed us that she has had an invitation to a "gathering" at The House of Lords the same day, and was unable therefore to also fit in our talk. Naturally we couldn't argue with this wonderful opportunity for her, even though we know many had been particularly looking forward to her advertised talk. On the brighter side she has promised to try to fit in with our timetable ASAP, (although our programme is now fully booked for next year and will also be announced at this meeting) , to come and visit us again, and of course we also wish her well for such a rewarding experience, and the fact that her efforts in researching this story are being so well recognised. Even more good news though is that Julie Lamara the Collections Access Officer-Local Studies, Bolton History Centre, Bolton Museum and Archive has agreed to stand in at short notice, and she will give a talk about her project researching “Bolton War Memorials” . This will include bringing the “Bolton Remembers” http://boltonremembers.org/ database along to see if anyone has an ancestor, or can give information about a serving ancestor, so all welcome, and please bring your family story in to be verified. This is a talk that should have been on our list anyway, and we are very grateful that she has found the time to come and tell us about some of the experiences of the Bolton men who never returned from the WW1 battlefields. I would also like to announce that we have recently had a collection donated, collected by a Boltonian with apparently no descendants, but made available to members of our society. There will be lever arch files on display , full of research including BMD certs for local families with the following surnames: Booth, Brindle, Cowell, Groom, Oldham, Pamphilon, Pegg, Pomfret, Schofield, Skipper, Walsh, Welsby, Yates, Young. Some files are 3 inches thick. All the paperwork is in plastic sleeves. In addition to BMD's there is census and other information. The local northern villages, Egerton Edgworth, Quarlton etc, are regularly mentioned. The files will be sold to the first comers at the extremely cheap price of £5 per file As usual our meeting will be held at 7.30pm at the Old Links Golf Club , Chorley New Road, Bolton, BL1 5SU with coffee , tea, and a Help Desk available from 7pm , plus stationery and book stall. For further information please contact Barbara Owen on [email protected] or 01204309515. May I also remind you of our Open Day on October 21st. More news shortly in a separate message Thanks Jane Milne Newsletter Editor, Programme Coordinator and Publicity Officer

    3. Hello Marg, Nicholas street was the second street to the east of St Michaels church. It was a strong Irish area in the 1800 hundreds. Huddstone was probably in the same area. Maybe a small place. There were a number of areas that did not show a name. Do a Google search for 'Angel Meadows, Manchester history'. It will show lots of pictures of the area and include a map section showing Nicholas street. People lived in terrible conditions in this place. Regards, Mike Morris Toronto Canada PS: I use to work in this part of Manchester on Collyhurst road. ________________________________ From: marg <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2017 6:31 PM I am researching a JOYCE family from Manchester Father Peter JOYCE, b abt 1842 Mayo, IRL, mother Mary Unknown. In 1881 the family are at 55 Nicholas Street, with a John but no Thomas and Peter is a tailor. There is a record for 1891 marching Peter jnr.'s age but the parents are about 10 years too old. But Peter snr. is a tailor. So could it be right? There is a baptism on Lancs OPC Baptism: 5 Jul 1863 St Joseph, Ancoats, Lancashire, England Petrus Joice - filius Patricii Joice & Mariae (formerly Mallett) Born: 4 Jul 1863 Godparents: Gulielmus Welsh; Bridget Shaughnessy Notes: ejusdem [written in place of the month - in the same month (as the birth)] Baptised by: J. J. DeGryse M. C. Register: Baptisms 1858 - 1865, Page 328 Source: Original Register at LRO Preston But I can't find one for John/Thomas. There are 3 John Thomas' born in Manchester at the time with mother's maiden name WELSH, LAUGHFIELD and DYER. I have found a marriage in 1858 of a Peter JOYCE, 21, Tailor, father John to a Mary WELSH, 21 widow father John LAVAN. The age is wrong but it could be a lie if they were marring underage. But the occupation of Tailor is interesting. So conflicting data! B Ireland Sons Peter Joyce 1864 b Manchester John Joyce 1868 ditto Last found in 1871 census. 3 Huddstone? Court St Michaels ward Manchester. I have the father's background: parents Patrick and Mary Joyce born Ireland and were living in Wolverhampton previously. There seemed to be a lot of Mayo Joyces in Wolverhampton and I have tried to see any connections there but cant find any matches so far. Would be interested in any useful resources, or insights, clues etc. Am happy to send for a cert, if that will help. Would like to learn what part of Ireland they came from, Questions to ask, Where did they go after 1871? who was Mary Joyce? Did the boys survive, marry etc,? When did they die? 3. Marg According to the new GRO birth indexes Peter JOYCE b Q3 1863 had a mothers maiden name of MELLETT There is a John JOYCE in Q1 1869 with no mothers maiden name who could be yours The question is did they marry in Ireland or the UK - I can't find one in the UK Your problem is not helped by the fact that it is 20 years after the 1871 census to wait until passenger lists from the UK exist So you will need to look at the other end Australia, USA, Canada all have passenger arrival lists to explore Hope this helps Regards John Hanson, researcher, the Halsted Trust, http://www.halstedresearch.org.uk New family history conference in 2018 http://www.secretlives.org.uk -----Original Message----- From: LANCSGEN [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of marg Sent: 27 September 2017 23:31 To: [email protected] Subject: [LAN] JOYCE family Manchester 1860s Hi all, re-joining the list after a break I am researching a JOYCE family from Manchester Father Peter JOYCE, b abt 1842 Mayo, IRL, mother Mary Unknown.
