    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: eworld_2 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52526.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking through Lancashire OPC, John and Ann make the most sense. It looks as though Ann 1757 might have married John Pennington 1773 since that marriage was by licence often the indication of minors. Ann 1761 looks to have died in 1769. 1769 Ann looks probably too young to have the child in 1781. It will pay you to look at the microfilm of the original register because Lancashire OPC shows what looks to be a note that the father's name was Spurs in both the 1781 and James 1786 baptisms. Note also that there were 2 Ann Sephton marriages in 1788 so Ann could have married then. It's always worth checking burials and wills for names of interest. Author: SuBrouwer Surnames: Vickers Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52527/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone know anything about Bolton boys signing up for the Royal Scot Fusiliers in Bolton circa 1899. I just found an ancestor James Vickers who did so but don't know anything about them. It also says his discharge corps was Manchester Regiment - 63rd and 96th foot. I have two photos that I think are this ancestor that I would like to match up, but don't know who to ask for advice or who to show the photos to. Any information greatly appreciated! Author: tracey_annepeace Surnames: Sephton Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52526/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, this is my first post ... so I hope I've put it on the right place!!! I am tracing the Sephtons of Ormskirk, Foleshill and Tamworth and have got totally stuck on which Ann Sephton is mother to James Sephton ( 1786-1852). (James is father to Francis (1823-1892), father to Frederick 1845-1898), father to Alfred (1895-1953), father to Dorothy - who is my mother-in-law) James is baptised with no father's name in Ormskirk in 1786 and I've come across what may several other children base also born to an Ann Sephton in 1779 & 1781. I have 4 possible sets of parents for Ann - 1757 Thomas & Jane, 1769 Richard & Mary, 1763 John & Ann and 1761 William & Ann James is in Foleshill by 1906 and goes on to have a son named John which leads me to think Ann's parents may be John & Ann Sephton ?? This could also make sense with them calling their daughter Ann ?? Any help would be appreciated Regards Tracey Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, my Gt Gran Ann McGrail married in 1898 to Patrick Mulrenal who died at 28 years of age. Ann then married a toy boy William Flannigan in 1904. Ann was 30 years old and William was 22 years old . Ann died of T.B. at 9, Brittania Street , Great Harwood. She was 33 years old. This was not her regular address. Her death was registered by Mary Durkin of. 9, Brittania Street. Mary or possibly her sister Ann had lived with the Mcgrails in Rawtenstall for many years. The family arrived from Ireland in 1880 with Mary and or Ann Durkin. A sibling of Ann's was John McGrail married to a Margaret who did live in Gt harwood.. These two people may of been the reason I find other family members living there . I know that Ann and Mary were mill workers. Ann Mcgrail had two children Patrick and Ann Mulrenal. Patrick married a Florence Barrett and Ann married Richard Anderton. all from ! Great Harwood but have not sorted them all out well at the moment. If you can shed any light I would just love it . Many thanks for getting in touch. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have Bernard (48) and Ellen (50) with a son, Edward (13) living In Liverpool on the 1861 census (attached on two pages). In 1871, I have Bernard (54), Margaret (35) and Edward (21) RILEY living in Liverpool (also attached. FreeBMD lists only one Edward RILEY born in Liverpool between Mar qtr 1847 and Dec qtr 1851 and that is Sep qtr 1848 Liverpool 20 488. I think both the above census listings are him. This, unfortunately, leaves the death and burial of Bernard RILEY in 1869 as somewhat of a paradox, as he is apparently alive in 1871. This certificate will have the names of the father of both Thomas and Mary. Also, there is no death registration for Bernard RILEY in Lancashire in 1869. The closest I can find are Mar 1876 Liverpool 8b 140 (died at 64) and the 1882 death (Jun qtr Liverpool 8b 142) where Bernard also passed at 64. I suspect the 1876 is the correct death as the 1882 has Bernard being born ca 1817/8, not 1811/12. hth David Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The vessel had to run before the sea for several hours, after which she was 16 hours hove to. The carried away her boats, and one tremendous wave washed overboard the second and third officers, a seaman, and a passenger. The seaman and third officer were drowned, but the others were cast back on deck by the reflex and saved. The ' s.s. Viking' from Liverpool with general cargo, put into Queenstown with loss of boats and bulwarks. The deck was swept and the cargo shifted, and she has had to go to Passage Dock for repairs.
