Hi Dave, I don't know if being on a map makes it the "correct" spelling but this 1950 map lists it as Starchhouse Sq. in the street index (map ref E5): <http://www.flickr.com/photos/rpsmithbarney/5261892451/sizes/o/in/set-721576 23098392683/> Also this page: <http://www.madeinpreston.co.uk/history3.html> says: " Also the Starch Houses are shown, these were knocked down in 1913 sand replaced by Starchhouse Square which was a bus and coach terminal." Is there anyone out there who knew Preston in the 1960s or has access to 1960s or earlier information? Before the town centre was redeveloped and the new road built there was somewhere called Starchhouse Square, somewhere behind Fishergate. It was the bus station for local independent bus operators such as Fishwicks, BBMS and Viking. I need to know the correct spelling. Is it Starchhouse Square or Starch House Square? Google comes up with both. Can anyone solve my problem? Thanks in advance. Dave Fleetwood

Haven't updated my tree yet, but it is these Hamilton's, we actually started with Woodbine cottage in Wlaes, my dad can remember visitng when he was teeny tiny, rest of family match with other snippets of history from other family members, all the way back to James & Mary Ann, hence the birth certificate and then their wedding certificate just to make sure. So this is now why I'm stuck going back further than their marraige as I'm trying to track father/son father/daughter. She married my 3 x gt grandfather Thomas Wilson in 1839 at Manchester Cathedral. Mike, Manchester Cathedral Archivist has very kindly furnished me with a great deal of information from 1839 onwards but couldn't find anything before then. The only information I have is that Thomas was a warehouseman and the son of Samuel a Farmer. I have no birthdate or birthplace! Jane White was the daughter of Joseph White a Cordwainer again no place or date of birth (only rough guesses from the census returns!) Any help and I know I am asking the impossible, anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Someone may be able to find something I have missed - hopefully!
