Author: djl79ewing Surnames: QUINN Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52557.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: First : Read the "Help and Advice" on the AncestryUK website. (Unless you have already done this) Barton, Stretford, Trafford Park are in Lancashire. (or to be precise"were", in the 1970s there were boundary changes and they became part of Greater Manchester" . However, for Family Tree purposes stick to Lancashire) There is a Public Family Tree on Ancestry with Charles J. Quinn in it. Search Family Trees for him.....it is in the Wilson Tree. According to this Charles and Kathleen (nee McMullen married Q2 1942) emigrated to Ontario, Canada. Charles died there 01/01/1981. He was in the RAF in WW2. Unfortunately there is a danger with Public Family Trees -a few people add names to their family with little concern for accuracy. I have had chunks of some of my tree copied and put into the "wrong" tree. ALWAYS check info you get from Public Family Trees by looking up records yourself. If their mothers maiden name was Sinnott I can see the birth reg for all 3 males and there are 2 marraiges of Quinn and Sinnott, one in Northwich Cheshire and the other in West Derby(Liverpool). Are you looking to track backwards too or just looking for info on the 3 males? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: quinncr Surnames: Quinn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52557/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am new to ancestry.com and genealogy in general. I am looking for a few things, based on what I have been able to gather about my family history. >From what I can find, my grandfather and his brothers (Charles John "Jack" Quinn, Sydney Vincent Gerrard Quinn, Francis "Leo" Quinn were born (1919, 1920, 1922) and raised in around Barton Irwell/Stretford/Trafford Park area (Lancashire?). The first thing I am looking for would be an orphanage for boys, probably around the area, most likely Catholic. My grandfather and his two brothers were raised there for some time in the 1920s after their mother died and their father could not care for them. The father ended up remarrying, yet I believe they remained in the orphanage until they joined the army. My second search is for a person - my grandfather's youngest brother Francis "Leo" Quinn. I was always told he went MIA during the war. I found a death record for a Leo Francis Quinn that seems to match (passed December 1996 in the Preston & South Ribble district). Where else should I look? I also cannot find any military records. How did young men decide what regiment to join? Was it based on their religion/where their family was from (originally Ireland)? I have a picture of the three brothers in their military gear (attached). The picture is dated December 9th 1939. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you know if the people you are looking for are Catholic/Church of England. Most Catholic burials would have been at Ford Cemetery or perhaps a parish graveyard. People living in the Kirkdale area could have been buried in Yew Tree Cemetery, Kirkdale cemetery, West Derby cemetery, or Anfield cemetery. If there was already a family grave elsewhere, they may have been buried further afield. There is a cemetery in Bootle.
