    3. Hi Marg, William Albert is with his family in Barrow in 1911. His probate is on Ancestry. I presume that is where you found he had died in Leeds. And I assume that is where you got the name Lind from. It could well be the mother's maiden name, but there again, it might not, unless you have further evidence. But the name does occur several times for this family so it is likely. Linton dies 1966 and his probate is on Ancestry. I haven't looked for the rest. What is it you are looking for and haven't found? She & her mother Phoebe emigrated to Canada around 1912 in search of John Johnson who had gone there earlier - hence why he isn't on the census. Its an interesting story. Author: iamMelissaDMatt Surnames: Lawson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52590/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My ancestor, Alexander Craig Lawson arrived at Upper Canada (Ontario), Canada in 1817 and states he is a native of Manchester. He states his occupation is Turner, though there is nothing that indicates he used this skill to his advantage in Canada. He was educated enough to be a clerk and teacher as well as farmer, not long after settling in Upper Canada. The middle name 'Craig' is consistent wherever his name appears. I've wondered if this was his mother's maiden name. He was likely born about 1790 (England). Anyone with information that may help me in my search of this elusive English ancestor is very much appreciated. Thank you, -Melissa D. 1. [LAN] re Bradley and Howard surname
    2. Marie Ball
    3. I remember you asking before about Bradley and I checked those in my tree at that time. I've just checked them again. The Bradleys in my Broadley tree came about because one branch decided to be called Bradley. My Broadleys and Bradleys are descended from Abraham and Ellen Broadley who turned up in Darwen in 1654. There is also a group of Broadleys in Bury, not descended from the above Abraham and Ellen, the spelling of whose name varies amazingly after they leave Bury. What occupation did your ancestors have? The Bury Broadleys are wool combers. I have never found any of my Broadley/Bradleys wool combing. I would also suggest contacting John Bradley the one namer, but I am wondering if he's ill, as I haven't had a response from him for some time. He's usually very good. Sorry not to be of more help, Marie in Cheshire.

    1. [LAN] Bradley & Howard surnames
    2. Listers, I've posted in previous years to this list and thought I'd try again. I'm looking for help with these families:Specifically John Bradley to Mary Howard/Howarth; and John's brother(??) William Bradley to Alice Howard/Howarth.William Bradley noted on his USA naturalization document that he was born in Lancashire. (est. 1810-1815). Both couples/families are on the 1850 census in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA. William and his wife returned to UK and settled near Norwich Cheshire. Alice was buried in the Norbury Chapel churchyard, Sept 1869; after her death William remarried 13 July 1870 to Ellen Seddon Hardman in St. James Church, Ashton-U-Lyne. William names his father as "Thomas" on that 2nd marriage record. William is buried with his 1st wife in the Norbury Chapel Churchyard 11 Feb 1880. He died intestate both in the UK and USA. John Bradley travelled back to Lancashire as a visitor, posssibly to inquire about a possible fortune left by William, and is on the April 1881 UK census living with James & Mary Ellen Hobson in Dukinfied, Stalybridge, Lancashire; John returned to USA in Nov 1881, steerage; obviously found no fortune. I've studied the UK censuses and BMD records, and Ancestry.com submitted family trees, but as these surnames are fairly common, I've not found good hits that match my narrative. I have a birth/baptism for William in the Little Hulton area that looks good, and a possible match for marriage of John & Mary, but nothing that I can say is definitive. My brother has the name James Albert Bradley, and is a straight shot decendant of John Bradley. I've had him tested by Ancestry.com and FamilyTreeDNA. The Ancestry.com tree can be found in the tree named "My Roots"; you can see the Ancestry DNA results there. I'd like to correspond with others who study these two surnames/families with Lancashire & Cheshire origins. Louise
