Hi there I am looking for a little help looking for one of my relatives' CHARLES AXON DATE OF BIRTH is said to be 1817, Heaton Norris, Lancashire to date I have not been able to find this. I am trying to find out who his parents were. When he was 64 his occupation was Land & Building Inspector. In the 1880's he bought land at Breck Road, Poulton - his profession was Land & Building Surveyor. He was married and his wife had a disability, I believe she could not walk easily. I hear he is mentioned in a book called the History of Poulton (I wonder if this book is still available). If anyone knows anything about this family I would be pleased to hear from them. Thank you very much for any help you may be able to give. Beryl

Ask them to look up a postal directory. Another approach is to send a query to a large local Newspaper 'The Manchester Evening News' 'In Touch' section. Explain you are trying locate family and give what info you have. I have had four responses to five posts over the years. He married Catherine Shaw and they had Thomas 1888 and my Grandmother Jane in 1896 they also had a baby Catherine in 1898 who died shortly after birth. I am listed here and on Genes Reunited and you can contact me via lyndabriers@btinternet.com as I am sure we have the same William and Catherine. Oddly there are another couple about the same time, place, names and dates which has proved confusing to some. This couple had only three children. (Although William went on to have more) Do feel free to contact me and I can give you anything I have on them. Catherine's mother was Ann Barton whose mother was Margaret Bainbridge and I am desperate to push the mitochondrial line further. With the male line you have the same name all the way back to Adam so I find the female line more interesting. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you x Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi all, As the winter is being such a miserable affair, I have been taking some time to go over some old brick walls. Some of you may be aware of the website, Dusty Docs, but for those who haven't heard of it, it's a online resource that covers the UK (plus a handful of other territories) and provides links to free websites in the British Isles that contain parish records. The Lancashire links connect to such places as Freereg, Lancs OPC and the Lancashire Will Search as well as other important sites like Genuki, which I've always found invaluable when researching a given area. The parishes covered are listed alphabetically so you can easily see if your place of interest has any relevant links. Hope someone finds the site as useful as I have! http://www.dustydocs.com Regards, Sally

The company was (I think) Matthew Steele & Co, or Matthew Steele & Son. Perhaps there was a change in name at some point when junior joined the firm. The grandson, Dr. Matthew Steele, was later in the soap business in Runcorn (1870's), so I had wondered if there was family business running somewhere that I hadn't uncovered. I believe junior was born 1799, and senior was running a soap business at that time in Ireland, so I think you're on the right track there. Thanks for looking for me - I'll follow up on those directories. James Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He and his brother Edward were the only two who stayed in Bolton while the rest of the family immigrated to Canada. I think James married someone named Bessie or Betsy Hall and they had two boys named Albert and Harold. Last records I could find of them were WW1 service records, when the family was living in Salford. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to search after WW1 to find his family? Thanks! That was a link to put them all under George that I was seeking. I had him as High Sheriff of BG, and a plantation owner, I just couldn't nail down that he was MY George. I have many references in BG books for him, but that one you linked to is new and looks interesting. Thanks for the new directions, these will help a lot!
