Author: diane_preston55 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52565.4.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me decipher the wording. I do know that my grandfather, William (full name: George William Hulley) wife Sarah Adelaide (Addie) and family appear on the 1901 census for Glasgow, Scotland where he is working as a draper. They left the Manchester area sometime after marrying in 1879, traveling to New York, and some twenty years later they are living in Glasgow, before moving to Montreal, Canada. By then my grandfather is going by the name of William. William's wife and children travel to Montreal alone. If I recall correctly there is a comment "next" to wife Addie's name mentioning that her husband is traveling via England. I am assuming William traveled south to relatives to say goodbye before coming to Canada. William and family appear on the 1911 Census for Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but by then William has changed careers. Eventually there is a split in the family, most of the family heads back to the States, but William ! my grandfather remained in Montreal and remarried. As suggested, I think my next step will be to take a closer look at the 1901 Census for England. My conundrum is that the father's name listed on the Cross Border document does not match the marriage record of 1879. I am almost certain I am looking at the record of my relative, but it is possible that I am wrong. Thank you again everyone.
