Actually, son Joseph's marriage cert has his dad as an Insurance Agent. Must be the same family. I have only been able to trace one Joseph with parents Joseph and Mary, which is Mary Jane Ross. Since they were married in 1855 Liverpool, I can not trace them on 1861 census. Working backwards, family info on their marriage certificate details Samuel Ellis, Clothier and Andrew Lyle Ross , foreman in factory. Have no idea where they orginated from. Author: AntonyMarr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52632.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The only marriage record for a Thomas Battle in Oldham at that time is between Thomas Battle and Caroline McGrath between Oct-Dec 1923. The birth entry for Joseph Thomas Battle earlier that year gives a mothers maiden name of Smith. It may be that Caroline had been previously married and then widowed/divorced and that would explain the 2 surnames, but you need to look at both the birth certificate and marriage certificate to be certain. A quick look in the census of 1891/1901 and 1911 would suggest that Thomas Battle was born in 1891, in Oldham, to Michael Battle and his wife Jane (BUCKLEY), and that Michael was a bricklayer born about 1862 in Sligo, Ireland and Jane born around 1858 in Coventry, England. This would need to be confirmed through checking relevant certificates etc. Antony Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you have the 1881 and 1891 records for John Patrino(s)? In 1881, he was lodging with Mary A. Mennie and her family in Chorlton; name is given as John Patrino. Also in the household was Constantine Coutzovellis, also born in Constantinople. In 1891, he is listed as George J. Patrinos, born 1856 Constantinople and married to Susan b. 1863 Manchester. They have two children, Amalia born 1887 Manchester and Hellen born 1888 Chorlton. Also with them is Curagan Patrinos, female born 1872 Chorlton, who is listed as servant. Possibly of interest - In the 1871 census, there is a Constandino Patrinos, a merchant born 1841 Patmos, Greece, living on Dunham Street in Chorlton - he is lodging with the Fisk family. Also in the 1871 census, in Chorlton, there is a lodger named Pierre Patrinos, lodging at Summer Villas, Stretford, who was born 1815 in Greece and is listed as a Levant merchant. Lodging in the same place is a Robert Morissat, listed as East India merchant and born in Turkey ca 1843. Details of John's death record seem to be: Name: PATRINOS, John Registration district: Chorlton (Lancashire) Registered 1907, 4th quarter. Vol. 8C Page 446 His age was 50. It seems Susan may have used both Susan and Gertrude. I don't see a marriage that would provide her surname. These are the records for Gertrude/Susan Patrinos who died in 1921. Deaths Dec 1921 Patrinos Gertrude 60 Chorlton 8c 685 Patrinos Susan 60 Chorlton 8c 685 Kind regards, Rosemary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
