    1. [LAN] Are any divorce records available?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: norman1913 Surnames: Jackson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.lan.general/52656/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My father in law got married in Northern Ireland in the late 1940s. He got divorced, but we're not sure when. We can only assume it was in the early 1960s as my husband was born 7 months before his parents got married - I assume they couldn't get married earlier because they were waiting for his divorce. We only found out about his previous marriage accidentally from another relative - his parents never breathed a word and were always a bit vague about their wedding date. This other relative only knew the wife's first name. I can't find any details about the marriage or divorce though. Are there any divorce records available anywhere online? I believe John Ashworth's parents were James Ashworth and Ann Turner but I have no further information on them other than they are both from Lancashire. When I get his response I will tell all because as was pointed out it will just perpetuate the wrong information. - Thanks Nivard. Sue Chapman

    3. Hi Susan Let him who is without sin cast the first stone ;-) I suspect you are far from on your own in this respect However have you considered the book is wrong ? It would certainly not be the first time a publisher had incorrect data I would first get that checked and if proved to be true I would tell those that needed to know, otherwise it just perpetuates inaccurate data Which once its out the bag is very hard to retract anyway Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 21/02/2014 16:02, Susan Chapman wrote: > Hi > For anybody interested in Westhoughton, Brass Bands or just a good social > history read - I have just obtained a copy of David Kayes book about > Wingates Band, it is excellent and I really recommend it > > However it has caused me to have another look through all my family history > photos because I have been proudly displaying a photo of my husbands > grandfather John W Byers who was a trombonist in Wingates Band.

    3. I did have a file marked "Ancestors I used to have" where mistakes were hidden away after coming clean to people :o) I do tend to admit a mistake's been made if I've committed one. This is a difficult past-time at the best of times, so it's highly unlikely that many people have got things 100% right from the get go. And besides, it's another story to add to the journey of your family tree, so if I were you I'd say what you've found out and let others decide whether they agree or not. The tale entertained me, thanks for that :O) Regards, Sally > > Am now going through all my photos, splitting the ones that I def know are > my family and can name, and having a maybe pile of the ones that I am no > longer confident about. Ann - first marriage was to James Richardson, a mariner, on 22 April 1835 - married by licence at Liverpool, St. Peter. Ann - second marriage - Ann Richardson widow on 31 Dec 1855 to John Wainwright, widower, at Liverpool, St. Nicholas. Ann Wainwright was buried 28 Dec 1893 at Garston, St. Michael. John Wainwright was buried 19 Aug 1894, at Garston, St. Michael. I have not been able to find a death for James Richardson, but a guess would be he died at sea, and I think those deaths are registered elsewhere. Someone will be able to point us in the right direction for a death at sea. I will endeavour to catch Eileen Rogers at Church on Tuesday, her parish registers actually give the location of each burial plot and whether or not there is a headstone in place. With graves as old as 1860, it may be they have fallen into disrepair, or even have been lost. Sue Thompson, Liverpool Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi For anybody interested in Westhoughton, Brass Bands or just a good social history read - I have just obtained a copy of David Kayes book about Wingates Band, it is excellent and I really recommend it However it has caused me to have another look through all my family history photos because I have been proudly displaying a photo of my husbands grandfather John W Byers who was a trombonist in Wingates Band. We had obtained the photo through another relative, imagine my surprise to see the same photo and to discover it is NOT John W Byers as we thought - but the splendidly named Ramsden Whitwam. oops do I confess to other relatives I have passed the tree and photo onto - or do I say nothing - as one dark haired mustached trombonist looks very much like another. Am now going through all my photos, splitting the ones that I def know are my family and can name, and having a maybe pile of the ones that I am no longer confident about. Has anybody else suffered a similar fate and if so - what did you do? Sue
