Kay Brown Co-List Owner Campti News Items Source: Natchitoches Times Submitted By: Kay Thompson - Brown April 8, 1921 CITIZENS BANK OF CAMPTI ROBBED People passing the Citizens Bank of Campti, before banking hours on Monday morning noticed the door open but thought that the janitor was cleaning up and it was only when the officials arrived that it was found that the bank had been robbed during the night. Taken was $298.45 in cash and about $100.00 worth of jewelry were taken as the burglars failed to open the safe. The vault door was blown off and the small amount of cash taken from a shelf and jewelry from safety boxes in the vault. Evidently the burglars were afraid that the noise of the explosion had aroused the town as they did not open the safe and so missed $20,000 worth of Liberty Bonds and other securities in the bank's safe. Three strangers seen in Campti on Sunday but who were missing on Monday are supposed to have been the robbers. Two Campti boys who passed the bank just before two o'clock on Monday morning noticed three men near the bank but it was too dark to get a good look at them. Sheriff J.W. Payne was notified and went to the scene of the robbery but no clue to the robbery has been found. A peculiar instance was the finding that the bloodhound in the jail yard here had been poisoned Sunday night and it is thought that the thieves put the hound out of the way before robbing the bank. ================== April 22, 1921 CAMPTI Cloutier Hotel was the scene of much merriment Thursday night when a "tacky party" was given by Mr. and Mrs. Rene Cloutier for the High School teachers, who were leaving after the grade school closed. Misses Ivy Tauzin, Lela Rogers and Blanche Weams. Owing to the inclemency of the weather the crowed was not a large as expected but those who braved the weather were well paid in laughter. Decorations of the spacious lobby were cabbage leaves and Irish potatoes and soap boxes for chairs. Each costume vied in attractive absurdity, Miss Ivy Tauzin was voted the prize. Mrs. Cloutier, the amiable little hostess of the social hour left nothing undone to make the occasion a happy enjoyable one. The grades of the High School closed Friday and the grade teachers Misses Ivy Tauzin, Lela Rogers, and Blanch Weams left for their respective homes on Saturday. Rumor says "Miss Tauzin is to teach a school all her own, were many morns" she has been teaching here six years and has filled the position with great satisfaction and her sweet, genial, gentle disposition has endeared her to all, who regret her leaving but wish her all that's's good and best in her future undertaking. ========== Feb 24, 1922 A marriage of great interest which took place Thursday morning at 8 o'clock Nuptial Mass was that of Mr. Joe Maricelli and Miss Lillian Barberouse. Tho' no invitations were issued the church was filled with admiring friends of both parities. To the strains of Mendelashon's wedding march played by Mrs. Frank Gallaspy the bride and her mother, Mrs. Paul Barberouse, walked up the aisle and met the groom with his attendant, his brother, Jules Maricelli, at the foot of the altar, there to plight their troth and according to the beautiful impressive ritual of the Catholic church Father Pluts pronounced them husband and wife after which the nuptial mass was celebrated. This mass call special blessings upon the married couple and continues the solemn nuptial ceremonies. During the singing of the register Mrs. Earl Perot sang expressively "O Promise Me". Appropriate hymns were sung during the mass. Presiding at the organ was Mrs. Edward Fredieu (Mena Maricelli). The bride wore a handsome brown silk canton crepe embroidered in henna with a heavy fur hat, shoes and gloves to match. She is of petite figure and her rose complection blending with her attire made a picture of loveliness. The bride is a high school graduate, has been teaching for several years and is a young lady of sweet and gentle manner. The groom is the youngest son of the late William Maricelli and has been valuable assistance to his mother in managing the farm since his father's death. He is quiet, painstaking, industrious, young man, with a jolly, amiable disposition. Mr. and Mrs. Maricelli left on the evening train for the Southern part of the state and on their return will be at home in the Maricelli residence on their plantation. They were the recipients of many lovely and useful presents. ======== Dec 15, 1922 The young men of Campti met Wednesday afternoon, December 6 at seven-thirty and organized a C.Y.M.C.
