With new people on a new mailing list, I am curious as to who is researching what surnames. That could help us improve interaction. Thanks Doyle
I would like to exchange information with anyone who is researching, or has information on, the BARBEE surname. They lived in Natchitoches, Rapides, and Sabine Parishes. Any help would be appreciated. Doyle T. Brittain Athens, GA athensga@ix.netcom.com

Seek information on Robert W. Lawson born April 9, 1810 in Tennessee. Had a brother named Green Lawson. Married three times: 1. Rosa Anne Carnahan of Natchitoches, 2. Florentine Rougeau, 3. Clementine Rougeau. He died November 25, 1889 and is buried in the Rougeau Cemetary just off Twin Bridges Road in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Anyone having information on his ancestry and/or on the dates of his 3 marriages please contact me. I will be glad to share what information I have on his descendants. Thanks in advance. Phyllis
I am seeking information on SEVERIN ROUGEAU's ancestry. He was born July 17, 1795 in the Opelousas District. He had married twice before June 2, 1834 to Florentine DuPercude of Natchitoches, the daughter of Pierre Nolasque DePorcuna and Marie Madeleine LaBerry. They moved to Rapides Parish in the region of Elmer, LA. where they raised a large family. He died August 17, 1871 and she died May 31, 1887. Both are buried in the Rougeau Cemetary just off the Twin Bridges Road in Rapides Parish, LA. My husband is descended from one of Severin's two daughters who married Robert W. Lawson. Lawson first married Florentine Rougeau whom he had courted by mail thinking she was her sister Clementine. After Florentine died, Lawson did marry Clementine Rougeau. Any help would be appreciated. Any help on Robert Lawson would be appreciated also. Phyllis

Hi Gaytha and Kay, just got wind of what your doing and am very interested. Can u tell me how I can access and add to your page/info list? Kathleen Balthazar Cane River Creole <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/caner71456/index.htm">The Cane River Trading Post</A> (my web page)
Hi all, This is Kay, yes I know the address is Gaytha's but she made a trip home to Louisiana this week. She left me in charge of babysitting the house, the cat, and the mailing list <G>. I guess she finally trust me now that I'm over 30 to do such things. :-) UPDATE - we now have 42 members on the list. NOT BAD considering we are now a week old. Thanks to all that have submitted their information to the list and we hope that everyone finds ALOT of new "cousins" soon. If anyone submitts anything for the Natchitoches archives please know that momma will be back Monday week and will start uploading it then. She is the only one of the two of us that does the uploading. I'm the typist ONLY. So we will give the "ole woman" a break. I guess she deserves it. :-) She is going to be bringing back copies of tax records, newspaper articles, church census, copies of cemeteries, and just about anything but live relatives because then we would have to feed them. So everyone who is new please jump right in with questions, stories, surnames, folk tales, and introduce yourself and tell us about you as well. See ya'll on the list & keep on sending those cards and letters. Kay Thompson - Brown Co - List owner - Natchitoches Parish

Here's info on my Carroll family: I don't have any information on WILLIAM CARROLL except that he was a prominent planter. His daughter Caroline states on the 1880 census that he was born in Virginia. He married SARAH (SHERIDAN) QUINN. He must have died before 1850 because he is not listed on the 1850 Natchitoches Parish Census - Sarah is listed as SALLY CARROLL. SARAH was born in Kentucky. Her first husband MICHAEL QUINN was born in Ireland and they were married in 1818. Their children were: MARY ANN QUINN married _____SWEATMAN CHARLES QUINN married ELIZABETH ______ who was married first to JOHN MC GARRAHAN SARAH QUINN married WILLIAM SMITH **************************************************************************** *********************** SARAH SHERIDAN'S children with WILLIAM CARROLL were: MADISON CARROLL married ELIZABETH BOLAND CAROLINE CARROLL married 1st DR. FOUNTAIN G. MC DONALD and 2nd MEREDITH E. WEBB ELIZA CARROLL married CHARLES LONG I'm hoping someone has some information on WILLIAM CARROLL. Shirley
DR. FOUNTAIN G. MC DONALD aka PETER MC DONALD is a very elusive person. This is my great-grandfather. Family tradition has it that he got into trouble (killed a man in a tavern brawl) in Virginia (where he was born) and left for LA. He had been going to medical school in Virginia and supposedly finished in LA (which sounds fishy) but I have checked with Tulane and there is no record of him nor on the list of Deceased Physicians of the AMA. I have yet to check schools in Virginia. His guardian was supposed to be the governor of a southern state but we don't know which one. We don't know whether any of this is true or the result of the McDonald's vivid imagination. My daddy swore up and down that it was true! I have found him only on one census - 1850 Houston County, TX census listed as Dr. Fountain G. McDaniel and he is also listed as one of the heirs in his mother-in-law's agreement between her and her heirs which is in the Natchitoches Parish Courthouse and there he is listed as Fountain G. McDonald. He just disappears around 1865 from all lists that I know of. He and CAROLINE E. CARROLL born in LA married and they had two children: JOSEPH CLARK MC DONALD married MATILDA JEANETTE (JENNIE) WEBB (these are my grandparents.) LOUISIANA MC DONALD married JOHN BURGAY CAROLINE CARROLL married for the second time to (hold on to your hats!) the father of her daughter-in-law JENNIE WEBB. His name was MEREDITH E. WEBB. There were no children - he was 30 years older than she. I hope someone can shed some light on FOUNTAIN MC DONALD. I have information on all the rest which I'll gladly share. Thank you! Shirley
Hi, I am Shirley McDonald Holmquist born in Houston but have lived in Anderson, SC for many years. HENRY SHERIDAN was born in Germany around 1752 and his wife, CHRISTIANA HENCH was born in PA about 1752. I believe they went to KY from PA and then went to Louisiana around 1800. In 1805 they migrated to Texas. When they were ordered out of Texas by the Spanish, he made a claim for land on the Bayou Chacom in the Neutral Strip. He died before Apr 14, 1825, the date of his Succession which is recorded in the Natchitoches Parish Courthouse. They had the following children: JAMES SHERIDAN - no information - did not go to Louisiana with family HANNAH SHERIDAN - married DANIEL MC LEAN JACOB SHERIDAN - never married. Killed by Indians in Texas ELIZABETH SHERIDAN - married LATTNEY PARROTT REBECCA SHERIDAN - married JOHN LUM MARY SHERIDAN - married 1st HENRY? EARLES 2nd _____MEDES SARAH SHERIDAN - married 1st MICHAEL QUINN 2nd WILLIAM W. CARROLL JOHN SHERIDAN - married LUCINDA NUGENT I have some information on all the families but am always looking for more. Will be glad to share what I have. Information on the Carrolls and McDonalds will be in two other separate messages.

In the 1880 Census could someone please tell me what Ward Campti would be in ? The film says Natchitoches Parish Wards 1-10 . No idea where to begin to look for Campti however ! Vee Vaughn
Gaytha, Yes, I have a copy of the book. It covers alot of my husband's families. Do you have any direct evidence that the James Bloodworth/Bludworth Jr. that came to LA was the son of Ann and James Bloodworth of NC? I was going to do a supplemental for my husband for SAR but when I ordered James Bludworth Sr. DAR application, it had a note saying James needed to be proven as a son. He is listed in the will I have been told but I have not seen a copy of the will. I guess they want to make sure that this is the sme family. Thanks. Rachel HGRACE5366@aol.com
