    1. [LANATCHI-L] Cemeteries-Stacy Cemetery
    2. Glenda Myers
    3. Hello, Whenever I post to the list, it's about cemeteries, isn't it? I can't help but be excited whenever I have another one to put up at the Natch. site. This time Nelda Lilies submitted the Stacy Cemetery. It is located between Provencal and Robeline, in the area of the former community of Victoria, LA. (I was fortunate to find some more of my relatives buried in this cemetery.) There's also some interesting information about sawmill towns and how the only thing left of some of those old towns are the cemeteries. The Stacy Cemetery is located on private property and inaccessible to the public. So, you can see how important it is to "read" these cemeteries, because otherwise this information is lost to us who don't know where they are or when they're inaccessible. If anyone on the mail list has a soft spot for a certain cemetery and have definite plans to "read" it, let me know and I'll post your name on the cemetery page next to that cemetery so we won't be duplicating the work. I have to confess that I've never "read" a cemetery myself but there are a few on the mail list who have and we would welcome your comments on how to go about "reading a cemetery". 3. Hi all - I notice the list got kinda of quite this week but I do have some news to share with everyone. Momma called in tonight to check up on everything and asked me to pass on that she has hit the Gen Socity, Watson Lib, cemt, and the local library in Natchitoches and is not through. She has way to much for me to tell you about now but when she gets back we will by busy typing up and posting to the list for all to enjoy. She has court records, tax records, marriage records, and lots more. I say when she gets back. I hope she gets back. She's had fish fries, crawfish boils and beautiful weather compared to us here in Nashville and she might not be back <G>. Take care all Kay Brown Co - List owner

    3. We've been pretty quiet on the list today. Just want to let you know that Elaine Barber has finished reading the New Kisatchie Cemetery and I just put it up on the Natchitoches Parish LaGenWeb site. There was already a partial listing but now it's complete. Her pictures really add to it, don't you think? http://www.rootsweb.com/~lanatchi/newkcem.htm Glenda Myers - CC-Natchitoches Parish LaGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~lanatchi/

    1. [LANATCHI-L] Cemetery Information
    2. BoxCarCL81
    3. Hello: I am researching SHARP and need cemetery information. My G-Grandmother, Willie T (Sharp) McCord lived at Coushatta, la. in 1870. She was 18 years old. She died about 1872-73 at Coushatta, La. I need information from the tombstone to verify the very little information that I do have. Does anyone have cemetery books that could look up this information? I believe Red River Parish was part of Natchitoches Parish during this time. I have looked in the Springville Cemetery and at the Shreve Library in Shreveport but did notfind her. I would appreciate any help. Thanks - Calvin Crowell

    1. [LANATCHI-L] Rinkel (Wrinkle)
    2. Len and Carolyn Cade
    3. The following information is from a family tree book compiled and edited by Shawnee Boswell Osborne. A letter to Mr. William K. Beasley from the son of John Lynch Wrinkle: Dear Mr. Beasley: Your letter of October 19, 1971 was a great interest to me. since I received it I have looked through a packet of old letters, papers, etc. given to me by one of my father's sisters before her death. I can find little information of real value so I will try to tell you what I remember hearing about my father's people in the past. All of my father's family are now deceased except one of my aunts who lives in New Orleans. She is Rose Romaguera. age 83, and is in very poor health. My father's family spelled their name Wrinkle but I was told that the original name was spelled Rinkle and that is was changed in court many year ago to make the name sound more American. My father felt that there must have been some other reason. My father, John Lynch Wrinkle was born June 21, 1884 and died April 24, 1955. He was the son of Abram David Wrinkle and Mary Jane Parrott Wrinkle. His family lived in Sabine Parish at one, later moving to deSoto Parish and to Alexandria. My grandfather, Abram David Wrinkle, was called. Abe. He was the son of David Wrinkle, whom I have heard was a bell maker, and Sarah Wray who came to this country from Tyrone County, Ireland as a child. I believe they lived in Bossier Parish. Grandpa was reared by relatives I have been told as his mother died when he was one year old and his father several year later. Grandpa was born August 26, 1840 according to my late Aunt's records. I believe she may have been in error as my father said Grandpa was only 14 years old when he enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 and that he had no choice but to go with his older brother who was at that time taking care of him. Also, Grandpa was about 70 when died April 30, 1918. Today I went to the cemetery to check the dates on Grandpa's tombstone. there is only the date of his death on the stone. Strange, isn't it? I have photostatic copies of Confederate War records which show that Grandpa enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 and served in Col. Terry's Rangers. He was wounded in the trenches on May 30, 1863 during the Siege of Vicksburg. In 1865 he married Mary Jane Parrott at Many, La. The following are things that I have heard but have no proof of. Perhaps they might coincide with some knowledge that you have. 1. the first Rinkels in our family in this country were a man who had been a professor at the University of Heidelberg, Germany and his three sons. 2. the three Rinkel (or Wrinkle) sons came through Tennessee where one settled. 3. Two some came to Louisiana and settled. Later one went to Texas and was never heard from again. 4. My grandfather told him family that after his father's death an uncle came from Tennessee to get his brother's children but finding they were being well cared for went back to Tennessee without them. 5. My grandfather spoke some if this Aunt, Rose Beasley. It is thought that he named one of his daughters Rosannah after this aunt.

    2. Diggersinc
    3. Hi all, Thanks for the cards and letters but we are trying to stay away from a "ROLL CALL" on the list. It causes confusion and bogs down the system and mail tends to get lost. By all means we do want people to keep on introducing themselves and tell us about your family, who you are looking for, where you are now, and any stories about family or the area are greatly appreciated. Thanks for you time and attention on this. Kay Brown Co - List owner

    2. CherrylM
    3. I am looking for a FPOC by the name of Louis Martin JeanLouis, or Toussaint JeanLouis, or Balthazar Toussaint JeanLouis or Francois Balthazar Delahoussaye? He supposed owned a plantation in Natchitoches Parish until the Civil War, when he was thrown off of his property. His mother was a FWOC named Marie JeanLouis of Lafayette Parish. After the Civil was he sued his borthers to reportion his mother's estate because he was left out of the division of the property. Most of the documents I've found pertaining to him in Lafayette Parish, he is listed as Louis Martin JeanLouis but I suspect he used others. It seems he used several, which has resulted in difficultly in finding him in any census records. Any help anyone can share would be greatfully appreciated. 3. There's ANOTHER new cemetery at the Natchitoches LaGenWeb site! Nelda Liles submitted this listing and we really appreciate her efforts in going out and reading this cemetery and typing it too. I was surprised and excited to find my own great great grandparents and several of their children buried in this cemetery. The Harmony Cemetery is located one mile south of Provencal, turn east on Harmony Road; the church and cemetery are about three miles down this road, on the left. 3. Friends, My Natchitoches connection is on my HARTMAN line: Gr gr gr grandfather was John P. HARTMAN, son of F. M. HARTMAN and Mary DORRATY. According to his 1872 Lafourche Parish marriage certificate, he was born in Natchitoches, La. He married Julia C. BOUDREAUX. Seeing that he married in 1872, I would figure that he must have been born around 1840-1855. Other Louisiana surnames I am researching include: GORDY (St. Mary, Vermillion and Orleans Parishes, Maryland, Ireland); BOUDREAUX (Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, Canada); BUNIFF (St. Mary Parish); ANDERSON (Orleans Parish and New York State); DUPRE and THERIOT (Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes); SIMPSON (Orleans Parish) and CARR (Orleans Parish, Ireland). Other surnames include: LOTT (Mississippi); and HOGG (Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Scotland). Am particularly interested in running down a genealogy of Senator Trent LOTT, because he comes out of the same part of Mississippi that my LOTT family comes out of. If it turns out that we are related, and in the future he runs for and wins the Presidency, then it will be the second U. S. President that I will be related to. (I have already documented my relationship to President Jimmy Carter - his mother was a GORDY before marriage.) BTW, I am a NSU alumni, class of 82. -- Colleen
