Oak Grove News Source: Natchitoches Parish Times June 31, 1921 Submitted By: Kay Thompson - Brown 250 Dupont Ave Madison, TN 37115 Seeing the farmers in the field and the warm weather makes us think of Spring time. Quite a number attended church here Sunday, among whom were several Creston visitors. All the young people enjoyed the singing at Mr. M.D. Brown's on last Sunday afternoon. We are sorry to hear of the serious illness of Mrs. Tyler at the time of this writing. The school is very proud of the new library received last week, bought with the money raised at the box supper. HI Everyone!!!! Just wanted to let everyone know that I am back in Nashville after a wonderful week visit in Natchitoches!!!! Sure wished I was there instead of here!!!!! I made copies of everything I could while I was there and visited cemeteries from Natchitoches all the way down the river to Lena!!!! There is just so much history there and I was so sad by the fact that there are so many graves that are lost to us as they were unmarked. Many of the graves were marked with iron crosses and there was just no way to read them and then some of the slabs over the graves are now unreadable due to age. Danelli Faccone drove and her mother in law Tootsie Faccone directed us to all the cemeteries. We didn't come across the first snake, but found plenty of fire ants..............I managed to get only one bite while cleaning a mound away from a headstone. That was only because I had to short a stick and those little things move fast!!!!!!! Kay and I will be typing up copies of newspaper items that I brought back and we will put them on the mailing list before I get them on the archives. Glenda, I have the Wise Cemtery, Oak Grove and Choctow Island Cemetery for sure that I will be getting done. I have another small one at Cloutierville.....it is a Baptist Cemetery but I can't remember the name of it right now. I have it on tape and will have to listen to the tape to get the name. A new subscriber to the mailing list.......Danille Weaver Faccone.....has Weaver Cemetery and I think Pleasant Hill..........Danille you will have to send a message to the mailing list and let us know which cemteries you have copied or in the process of doing in Natchitoches Parish................you know how my mind is!!!!!!! Danille and I spent the day in the Natchitoches Genelogical Society all day on Thursday and went through old Natchitoches Times getting articles that will be of great help for others to find information about their relatives. We started out sitting at a table and before the day was over we were in the middle of the floor! It was hard even wanting to take a break for lunch...........but our stomachs finally got the best of us and we finally had to go!!!!! The ladies there are so helpful and they have so much information on Natchitoches Parish and the families. I would highly reccommed that anyone that goes to Natchitoches to do research to visit them. The people there have worked very hard to preserve Natchitoches History. I have somethings...........like a ton of emails to get caught up on and then I will start typing what I have here at the house. Kay came over and I sent her home with a stack of items that she is going to get started on today after work!!!! My thanks to everyone who has submitted family information for the archives...........Let's make Natchitoches Parish grow and hopefully help someone find their relatives and help you find more "cousins". Hello group, Thank you for the info re: Polly Horner. I would like to ask about one of the pallbearers listed...a Mr. Andrew Davis. I have been told that my father was A.D. Davis. Our family was from and/or lived in Spanish Lake, Robilline, and Nat. A.D. Davis was overseas or away in the service when I was born in July 1948 at the old Nat. hospital. Could there be any chance that this Andrew Davis knows of his history and if there was anyone in it with the name A.D. Davis? Perhaps the person that posted the news about Ms. Horner and can contact the family or Mr. Andrew Davis could get back to us. Thanks Theresa C. Garza (DAVIS/BARBO/FREEMAN)

I wonder how my old friends in old Natchitoches are getting along. Some people like France, but here is one soldier boy that don't like it at all. For Christmas we had a big parade and we had President Wilson and General Pershing with us and as the band played Dixie, every soldier boy wanted to step. This is a fine country for some People, but I would sure love to get out of it and let them have the whole thing. This little town I am in is Humes, France. The American girl need not be uneasy about her sweetheart in France, for the French girls don't look half as good as the American girls. Good bye with good wishes to every body in old Natchitoches. Hoping I will be back in a few months. CRIT H. ROGERS

E. and Miss Eugenie Walette, which took place at the home of the bride's uncle, Mr. C. L. Campbell on Tuesday, Dec 31, 1918. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Childers, life time residents of this parish, and he is a successful young planter. The bride, likewise, is a daughter of one of the old Natchitoches families. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Wallette. This wedding came as a surprise to many, as the young folks had kept their plans to themselves----but evidently decided to begin the new year in a double harness. The TIMES extends the young couple its best wishes for a long happy and prosperous life.

Hello everyone, It would be so much more difficult or almost impossible to do geneaogical research without volunteers who are willing to spend their time and energy to provide us with the information we need. Lesa Rambin is a new lookup volunteer and she has a wealth of information about early settlers in Natchitoches and also will do lookups from "Natchitoches Marriage Contracts, 1739-1803. This week we have received offers from volunteers to read more cemeteries in Natchitoches Parish. To see which ones and the volunteers, look at the "cemetery index page": http://www.rootsweb.com/~lanatchi/cemetery.htm If there is a cemetery that is not on the list that you know of, would you please let me know. I've just been adding names of cemeteries as I read about them or hear about them. I don't know where some on the list are actually located and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Hi, everyone! My name is Robyn Webb, and I have just begun to research my genealogy. My great-great grandparents were from Natchitoches. They were Amelia Paul White ( nicknamed Mia, born c. 1890's) and Charles Cannon. Their children were Luella, Leroy, Charles, and Lee Ethel Cannon. They all attended Morning Star Baptist Church in Natchitoches. Lee Ethel Cannon was my great grandmother. She married George Hicks, and they had two children: Lucille and James Hicks. Lucille (born 1933, died 1976) was my grandmother. She first married Leonard Clark, and they had two children (Lee Ethel and Leonard, Jr.) Lucille then married my grandfather Samuel Johnson, and they had 8 children together, including my mother Brenda Faye Johnson Webb. I would greatly appreciate any more information that anyone may have on these families. If anyone knows about Amelia White or her sister Melyan White; Charles Cannon and the Cannon family; or George Hicks and the Hicks family, please contact me. Thanks so much! ~Robyn Nicole Webb - ============= Robyn Nicole Webb rnw9e@virginia.edu (804)923-0753

Hi all, Hope this finds all well and happy. I'm sending this out to our two list (Natchitoches & Grant) to & say WELCOME to the new members that we have gotton this week & give everyone else an update. Gaytha will be in this afternoon from the "Bayou State" with loads of info. It seems that she got several of our friends fired up into helping as well as "Diggin" for thier own relatives. They are all over both Natchioches & Grant Parish & with her she might have caught some in between. They will be hitting the cemt & libaries often getting articles & anything else they can lay their hands on. They will either send it to us or type it up themselves. She didn't go much into detail with me on what all she had & I'm sure by tom you will be hearing from the horses mouth herself, so to speak. I do know that she found a find in Natchitoches. It's the 1903 paper with tidbets from the surrounding communites like Campti, Goldona, Provencal, Oak Grove, and all the others. But Grant Parish do not worry. She hit those papers too & several cemt there. Like I said we have more coming. Everyone, we are excited about this and we will start typing right away and get this up to everyone. Also remember if you miss anything, momma is going to start next week archiveing all the messages that come across the list so all you have to do is go to the site and access it all. I do have one request. Please forgive me but someone asked for the location of the Puckett or Pluncett Plantation. Could that person please email me??? I have news for you. Take care all and hope to keep on seeing those quires and posting that you have. Kay Brown Co - List Owner - Natchiotches & Grant Parish
