    1. [LANATCHI-L] COTTON Family around 1870
    2. Pollywogh
    3. Hi, I'm looking for the COTTON, FOSTER, and BRUTON families in the Natchitoches and Red River Parish areas. One of my problems is Coushatta Chute was part of Natchitoches Parish until 1871 then became part of Red River Parish, so I'm not sure where I should be looking. Arthur COTTON appears on the 1870 census in Coushatta Chute in Natchitoches Parish. Along with Amanda COTTON his wife and children Tolliver, Preston and Philip. (according to family info Amanda died in about 1871). I have ordered two films from the local FHC on cemetery records in the area. Didn't find anything on the first one, second not in yet. Also listed on the same census page are Sarah (Arthur and Amanda's oldest daughter) and her husband Elisha FOSTER. I have ordered a marriage record film but it's also not in yet. Arthur COTTON'S second wife was Rhoda Bruton. They were married in July of 1872 in Red River Parish. I'm sorry this is so long. Do you have any suggestions on how I might research this family in Natchitoches Parish? Thank you. Sincerely, Holly Vonderohe

    3. In a message dated 98-04-18 10:34:17 EDT, you write: << Gaytha The old courthouse has a complete list of the Catholic cemetery in Natchitoches (I am unsure about other cemeteries although it might be worth a look)...It might save you some videotape if you want to add this cemetery (if I remember correctly copies are 10 cents). Hope this helps. Frank >> Frank We are reading these cemeteries ourselves due to copyright laws. The cemeteries that the Natchitoches Gen. Society have copied through the years are theirs. The only way that they can be used on the LaGenWeb is if they would donate them for our use as The Louisiana Genealogical Society has done. Thanks for your information though. Gaytha

    3. Hi Everyone!!!! I just took a look at Glenda's Natchitoches Parish Page and she had done a great job on it!!!!!! The pension records that she added a link to were donated by the Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society. They also donated the Bible Records "Be It Known and Remembered" and the Soldiers of 1812. We are very much in debt to them for also donating all the cemeteries and census records that have been published in the first 40 volumes of their publication. These will be typed and posted in each of the respective parish archives. I am planning on being back in Natchitoches the month of June to gather more information from old Newspapers and to video tape several of the older, larger cemteries. It will take me time to get all of this transcribed, but I in hopes that it will help all of you in finding those long lost dead relatives!!!!! My great thanks to Danelli Faccone for all the hard work she is doing in Natchitoches to help Kay and I out. She does the leg work............the hardest part..........and Kay and I just type!!!!!! She called last nite to let me know that she has put in the mail to me a whole stack of copies from the older Natchitoches Times of births, community news notes etc. She is also said that there is a cemetery working at the Rachal Cemetery today and she will video tape it and get it to me to transcribe...... That means Kay and I get to keep typing and getting more information out for ya'll to use. Gaytha Gaytha

    1. [LANATCHI-L] What's New at the Website
    2. Glenda Myers
    3. I've stayed up late tonight working on some new things for the Natchitoches website. First: There's a new automated, searchable query system which I hope will help us in the future. The surnames you enter for your query will be searchable and also allows for a direct response to any query so we can see if you've had any answers. The response feature also allows you to change your e-mail address for your query. Right now the system is quite new so the search feature may take awhile to get more queries entered into the system. I have entered all the 1998 queries. If you posted a query prior to 1998, you will be able to veiw them but they won't be searchable.... so you may want to re-enter them into this new system. Second: There is also an automated, searchable system where you can go to enter obituaries and biographies and view others that have been entered. Please enter something if you can so we can see how they work. Third: The main page has a link to an old 1895 map of Natchitoches Parish. (look at it when you have plenty of time because it takes awhile to load) Fourth: There's a new link (also on the main page) for the Louisiana Confederate Pension Application Records at the Archives. It even has a form, price list, and address so that you can send for an application if you are fortunate enough to find an ancestor (or his widow) listed. These records are great and tell you more personal things that you might not know about them and are well worth the money. ($5.00 for 9 pages) Hope you enjoy the changes, Glenda Myers
