You brought to this position a sense of humour, even-handedness, open-mindedness and a desire to learn. You did not, to be emphasised, did not impose "sanctions" but would gently remind listers respectfully that a particular topic had run its course and to move on. Your successor has big shoes to fill, as they say. For anyone wishing to take on the vacancy as administrator of the Lanark list, perhaps it would be helpful if you were to list the rules, guidelines and limitations of the role for anyone contemplating applying for the position. Above all else, the main criteria should be "education," respect and a curbing of any desire to be heavy-handed in assessing contributions to the list. I have made severe cuts to my responsibilities to make room for more pressing matters and this is another of them. I first wanted to make Orcadia and Lanark available to anyone presently part of the "family" before going outside with it.
