    1. [Lanark] Missing PURDIEs
    2. Good morning, I'm stuck and looking for some suggestions. I know the date of my great grandmother Catherine PURDIE's birth to be 9 November 1859. Her parents were William PURDIE, joiner, and Agnes HARVIE or BOAG. I've also found the name spelled HARVEY and found her called Ann. Searching the LDS site with this information I found Catherine had a brother, Thomas Harvey PURDIE born 12 July 1863. Now to the Census. The only Catherine PURDIE I could find in 1861 had brothers and a sister who I couldn't account for. Then Anne suggested that BOAG could be the name from a previous marriage and learning that Ann/Agnes was a widow when she married William confirmed it. Now the family in the 1861 Census makes sense. William is a joiner, the wife's name is Agnes, age difference is just about right, and Catherine is 2. My working hypothesis (assuming nothing) is that the other children (Elizabeth 1846, James 1848, and William 1851) are Catherine's half siblings. Their ages would fit the second marriage theory too......a 10 year old and then *poof* a 2 year old. My problem is that I can't find this family anywhere else, either as a unit or separately. And to confuse things even more, my great aunt said that her mother was an orphan raised by the Logan family. I can't find any evidence of that but I do find a Catherine PURDIE living with the FAIREST family in 1871. No sign of the other 3 children. I was hoping I'd find at least one of them in 1851, with William and his first wife. Zip. When I look at what I've just typed I realize I know far more than I ever thought I would but I'd like to know the rest. I'd appreciate any suggestions and ideas about where else to look. Thanks. Jeanne
