Hello All: I am not sure if this topic has been addressed or not? Currently all of my genealogy files (PAF and Ancestral Quest) are PC based. I am considering moving from a PC to a MAC and I am curious if any within this group have made this transition? I understand that FTM is close to releasing a MAC based version. Any input would be appreciated. -- Bill __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 5366 (20100814) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com
Bill, I can send you correspondence from very disgruntled users of FTM 2010. I too bought 2010, but luckily installed it in another computer, so I still have my files intact in my old computer. I too disliked everything about version 2010. I think it would be wise to thoroughly check out this MAC version of FTM before you decide. >>Currently all of my genealogy files (PAF and Ancestral Quest) are PC >>based.<< Bill, If Ancestral Quest is able to be run on your MAC without loosing any of its attributes keep with it! I wouldn't use anything else other than Legacy if I had to do away with my AQ. If Don and Frank say there is a program to run on MAC to use what you already have it is good enough recomendation, asking off list they might talk you through the process. Recommending other programs is not the issue, it is being able to run with what you already have and are satisfied with. So many FT programs are updated and modified only to be less user friendly in many ways. I use my original AQ and AQ11, I didn't upgrade to 12 as there are a couple of minor updates I didn't like in AQ11, so, "why fix something that ain't broke" as the saying goes. Maisie's FTM transfer was a warning to all when she upgraded to her new computer (not a MAC), there were so many lost files that she says she wouldn't have enough years left to try and rewrite all the data that was lost or didn't transfer. Regards Jenny An Ancestral Quest user for approx. 30 yrs without any problems transferring with GEDs or uploading to newer computers over the years.
