    3. Today please take time to pause and remember our dear friend and Lanark List member John Duncan who passed away at 2.30am AEDST Friday 12 March. Our condolences go out John's loving wife and carer Mattie and their Family who have supported him not only for the past week and a half but since his untimely stroke where the Doctors gave Mattie no option but to have him placed in nursing care. As Maisie says, "He contributed so much to this list." I am SO glad I "ordered" his disc of his life story, for which I sent a donation. He was delighted that I asked him for a copy as I think he was down in the dumps that the house they were trying to sell was not moving. Mattie said he was lying down when my letter came with the dollars and it just perked him right up. Of course this was a year or so ago. This is not for any other reason than to tell you that sometimes small things can make a huge difference in people's lives, and so my "donation" meant a lot to John when he felt down, whereas his life story was a tremendous gift to me as it gave me a template for doing my own...maybe! John's contribution on many subjects and more importantly passing on his own social experiences of life and times in Scotland touched our lives through this medium. I had a story passed to me that only happened last week, this was from our list member John Brake..... Mattie had taken a box of beautiful chocolates in for the staff, she left the chocolates within John's reach while she went to find a staff member, by the time Mattie returned with the staff a few of the chocolates had disappeared, they all had a good laugh as John hadn't eaten for a week and chocolates he hadn't eaten at all over the last couple of years! In Remembrance We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name, In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide, And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. --Author Unknown-- To John Brake, "Thank You" for being there for Mattie and helping in passing on our wishes to John and for keeping us informed. Sincerely, Jenny - NSW Aus Maisie - CA USA

    3. John Duncan was an inspiration to many on the list, his observations and history postings regarding LKS will be sadly missed. Our condolences to the Duncan family Bob Cdn. ====== On 12/03/2010 12:34 AM, Jenny Myers wrote: > Today please take time to pause and remember our dear friend and Lanark > List member John Duncan who passed away at 2.30am AEDST Friday 12 March.... > >

    3. My condolences to Mattie. John's descriptions of Lanarkshire and its geography has been a boon to me, and to many others on this list... Thank you John Brake for keeping us informed.. Without the contributions of both Johns, this list is so much the poorer. RIP Gay ----- Original Message -----
