Bob Still working on the premise that Alexander may have been orphaned at a very early age, I found an Alexander Reid, 13, born in the County of Lanarkshire, in Mossbank Industrial School in Springburn, Glasgow in 1871. Industrial schools were set up to provide training for boys (and girls) who were in danger of falling by the wayside, so to speak, because they had been abandoned by their parents, or orphaned, and allowed to roam the streets. 'Alexander Reid' was hardly an uncommon name but if all else fails you may be able to get hold of the records pertaining to this Alexander which may have details of his family background. The Mitchell Library may be able to help. See: http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/Library_Services/The_Mitchell/ Rhoda
Hello Rhoda Again I must thank you. If you let me know where to send it ,I would like to reimburse you for all you have done for me. I can have a cheque sent to you from my brother in law in Polmont. I will be in Scotland on the 11th of March I have to go to West Register house in Edinburgh to get a copy of a court case , That names all descendants alive at the time of the case in the 1800's. Would you know which office holds New Monkland Poor House Records as I have been informed by the Mitchell that they have just transferred the Cambusnethan records to North Lanarkshire Archives at 10 Kelvin Road ,Cumbernauld, as I have records to find there also. Again I am in your debt Bob
