    3. Hi list: On top of what Don is saying. Perhaps we are all missing a clue in not exploring the language. What does the word "Yett" mean. We all know what "yet" means and the other close word is "Yeti" which is an Abominable Snowman in Tibet. Is there a Scots or Gaelic word that would give us another clue? 3. >From Wikipedia A yett (from the Old English and Scots language word for "gate") is a gate or grille of latticed wrought iron bars used for defensive purposes in castles and tower houses. Unlike a portcullis, which is raised and lowered vertically using mechanical means, yetts are hinged in the manner of a traditional gate or door, and secured by bolts attached to the yett, or by long bars drawn out from the wall or gateway. 3. A Findlay family lived at Woodyett Farm from the early to mid-1800s until 1957. My source for this had the farm in Lesmahagow but was incorrect on a number of locations for this branch. We discovered that some events actually happened in Cambusnethan. However, Carnwath is rather a stretch from Lesmahagow and I think I'm wasting your time on this! But I'm really pleased to learn of the meaning of the word 'yett'. Thanks Frank, Nivard and Don.
