    3. Hi List. Sorry, me again! My g grandparents lived at the Cleghorn Gate House, when in June of 1867 they decided to immigrate to Canada. They had to go to Glasgow to board the good ship St. George. My question (and I think I know the answer but am not sure) how did they travel from Cleghorn to Glasgow. Was the railway running in Scotland at that period of time? When they arrived in Canada they sure could not hope a train to go to their destination, but I am not quite positive about Scotland. Appreciate your thoughts in this regard. Frank Easton Sherwood Park AB, CAN +8c

    3. Lanark station would be the nearest to Cleghorn ... It's on a 'loop' connection to the main north/south line to Glasgow and at that time would be very busy carrying coal, farm produce and general traffic including even tourists (from the City, to the Upper Clyde Valley and the Falls of Clyde). Most of the 'rural' 'Big Houses' and estates would have the Coachman make an early morning 'run' to the Station to deliver the sucessful businessman owner to his offices in Glasgow ... and collect the mail etc. G Russell

    3. >From a google search and this from Wikipedia *Glasgow Queen Street (Glaschu SrĂ id na Banrighinn in Gaelic) is a railway station in Glasgow, Scotland, the smaller of the city's two main line railway termini and the third-busiest station in Scotland . The station was built by the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, opened on 18 February 1842. In 1865 the E&GR was absorbed into the North British Railway * Obviously trains were running when your rellies decided to emigrate..making the trek to the point of departure more easily accessible.. They would have been able to go, all the way by train by the looks of things... Gay > > My g grandparents lived at the Cleghorn Gate House, when in June of 1867 > they decided to immigrate to Canada.
