    3. A great big thank you to Rhoda for her help. I have just found on Find my Past, I hope my elusive Thomas Barr.He signed up for the above Regiment on 1st June1882 in Newry. He has listed his Mother as Jessie Barr living in Govan near Glasgow. It says in his enlistment form he has come from the 3rd Batt R Lancaster Regiment I'm wondering if this is why i could not find him on the 1881 census. Can anyone help me with these Regiments or direct me to a good site have googled but found them quite confusing. thanks Liz ----- Original Message ----- From: "CandROverson" <overson12@btinternet.com> To: <lanark@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 15, 2010 7:57 AM Subject: Re: [Lanark] 1881 census BARR FERGUSON > Elizabeth > > I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. 3. Hello Elizabeth I am not by any means an expert on military history but googling Royal Lancaster Regiment suggests that the Kings Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment had a connection with the Border Regiment because by 1959 the two had amalgamated to form the Kings Own Royal Border Regiment. See: http://www.armymuseums.org.uk/sot-infantry.htm The Kings Own Royal Regiment Museum is in Lancaster and I think they should be able to advise you what information the Regiment's records might hold on Thomas Barr. (It is interesting that he joined an English, rather than a Scottish, regiment).
