Hi: I wonder if someone can give me a tip or two on researching in Australia. I have had a lot of success in researching in Scotland by picking up the telephone and cold calling people with family surnames that I am researching. I pick out the names on British Telcom. I would think there is a similar telephone company in Australia but however are there different companies by the States (New South Wales, Queensland etc)? Also I appreciate there has been posts in the past on Passenger Lists to Australia from Glasgow. Are they easy to access and are there available web sites. I am looking for a James Douglas Campbell, a welder, who went to Leeds but came home to Scotland (1930)to marry his bride Elizabeth Scoular Burnett. Sometime after the marriage they moved to Brisbane Australia. Was there any shipbuilding industry in Melbourne? I know I had a first cousin here who was a welder in the ship building industry in Victoria British Columbia during the war, so this could be a similar situation. Comments please.
