    3. Dear Listers, A while back there was some discussion of Joadja Place, Uddingston, Lanarkshsire, Scotland. I received the following email and thought others might be interested: ------------------------ From Carol Linden <helena18818@yahoo.ca>: My BRODIEs went to Joadja Creek, NSW 1881-1891 -- I have the 1881 and 1891 Scotland census -- four children were born to them while in NSW. After returning about May 1890 the family was in Uddingston. Their son JAMES BRODIE married Janet WILSON and another son, THOMAS BRODIE m. Jessie WILSON. Part of the info recorded about the time in NSW included: George and Agnes Wilson had been in Australia with Thomas and Mary Jane Brodie. They lived in Joadja Place, Uddingston; this place was named after the township in Australia where they had settled. In the book, JOADJA Creek by Leonie Knapman, page 13 ". . . a Geroge Wilson left Joadja Creek and returned to Uddington, a coal-mining village in Scotland, where he built a terrace block which named Joadja Place." 3. The West Lothian Council have on their website a "Hame an Awa" section, scroll down to Shale Miners http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/media/downloaddoc/1799577/EmigWLDisplay It is interesting reading the whole webpage as it covers immigration to most countries during the mid 1800s. I know there are at least 2 who were members of this list that had very strong ties to Lanarkshire and Joadja Creek on the southern highlands of New South Wales. Leonie Knapman has researched this area very well and has written more than one book on the kerosene shale mine and the miners. leonieknapman@bigpond.com (I have no commercial interest only an historical and family one) Regards, Jenny Lake Macquarie NSW
