My great-great-great-grandmother was Margaret Storry, who married John Wilkie in New Monkland in 1788. I have recently been delving into the Sasines and testaments, and have found that she was the daughter of John Storry of Braco (or Bracco/Bracho)in the parish of Shotts and his second wife Elizabeth Howie (also spelled Huie/Hoey etc etc), daughter of Joseph Howie of Meikle Drumgray in the parish of New Monkland and granddaughter of Robert Howie younger of Glentore. John Storry of Braco seems to have been a son of Andrew Storry of Wester Braco and Paperthills and Mary Clark. His brothers were Claud Storry, Andrew Storry of Paperthills, William Storry of Badallan and Peter Storry of Badallan. I don't have much yet on most of them, but I believe that William Storry of Badallan in the parish of Cambusnethan married Catherine Baillie. Their son John married Janet Thomson, and one of John and Janet's sons crops up as Claud Storry of Badallan. Another of their sons, William, married Janet Hamilton. I see from the Lanark List archives that there are several people interested in Storrys, and would be interested in exchanging notes. Anne You don't stop laughing because you grow old. The mention of Braco, snipped out of a previous message below, intrigues me. I, too, have ancestors who were from Braco - one bunch who ended up in Orkney, and others who were in Paisley area. I had assumed that this Braco was further north. For the part of my family who were in Paisley area, census records from 1851 to 1881 show the birthplace to have been "Braco, Perths" or "Muthill, Perths". I know that in the parish of Muthill there is a Braco and a Braco Castle, and from these references I'm quite certain that that is where my GGgma came from. I'm confident that I have found her family there. But what about this Braco in Shotts? Can anyone give me more information? We also have STORRY and various spellings in our family tree. I have only got back as far as John STORRY who married Janet Marshall at New Monkland in 1774. One of their sons - John b. 1775 - married Mary Morton in June 1803 at New Monkland. Their daughter - Alice Jane b. about 1819 was my husband's great grandmother. If anyone has details of the family of John Storry and Janet Marshall I would love to have them, as so far, I only have two children for them, and I suspect there would be a lot more than that.
