    3. Hello all, I have a problem with my Great Grandfather's brother, Campbell Paterson. It appears from 3 successive census listings that he had 3 wives. I know for sure that the 1881 census is correct, as I have other sources for this. I also know that the 1901 census is him because he was the man who invented Camp Coffee. I am not sure about the 1891 census, although all the children on the listing appear to be the same. I cannot find any death record for his first wife, Mary Ann Davidson (born 1853 in Edinburgh according to family records). He married Mary on 12 Jan 1872 in Glasgow. There is a family myth that he ran off with his housekeeper. Maybe he did this twice? Can anyone help me to solve this interesting puzzle? 1881 Census Campbell Paterson Age: 29 Estimated birth year: abt 1852 (he was actually born 30 Jul 1851) *Spouse's name : Mary * Eastwood Town: Pollokshaws County: Renfrewshire Occupation: Vinegar Merchant 1891 Census Campbell Paterson Age: 39 Estimated birth year: abt 1852 *Spouse's name : Catherine * Civil parish: East Kilbride County: Lanarkshire Occupation: Manufacturing Chemist 1901 Census Campbell Paterson Age: 49 Estimated birth year: abt 1852 *Spouse's name : Elizabeth* Civil parish: Cathcart County: Renfrewshire Occupation: Coffee Essener Manuf I would appreciate any leads on this. 3. Tricia The death of a Mary Ann PATERSON, other name DAVIDSON, was registered in Skelmorlie, Ayrshire in 1923. She was 70, so the age is right. The image of the death certificate may be downloaded from Scotlands People. Between 1872 and 1901, Scotlands People has only 1 marriage for a Campbell PATERSON other than the one between your Campbell and Mary Ann, and that was with a Maria Burns in Maybole, Ayrshire in 1898. So he either remarried outside Scotland, or he 'lived in sin' with one or both of those other women.
