Hello John See the piece on Reformatories at the bottom of the page here, which mentions the Industrial School at Rottenrow. http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/towns/townhistory338.html Industrial Schools were aimed at giving training to children and young people who had been left destitute either by their parents dying or deserting them. The mission, I suppose, was to turn them into God-fearing adults and to keep them from turning to crime. The Mitchell Library in Glasgow may keep records for the school.
