Can anyone tell me whether there were Army Barracks in Glasgow around 1805-1810. and whether there were any Army Regiments stationed in Glasgow at that time. If so, can you please tell me which Regiments. Thanks Gay
There were barracks in Gallowgate at that time. It is said that General Wolfe's troops were stationed there before going to Canada and taking part in the Battle of Quebec. While in Glasgow they were used on building projects, including the building of St Andrews on the Green Episcopal Church. The baptismal records of that church are held in the Glasgow City archives at the Mitchell library. They record the baptisms of the children of a lot of English soldiers. Iain McKenzie Glasgow
