My husband has family from England in the County Durham area named Gibbons or Given's. Both spellings seem to be being used both in census and on documents. I have a Robert Gibbons married to a Margaret Brown on June 1, 1829 in Houghton-le-Spring. She was born in Houghton-le-Spring in 1808 but do not have her parents. Robert was born in about 1807 and I have England. Their daughter Margaret Brown Gibbon's married John A. Short June 30, 1849 at Easington County Durham at St. Mary's church. She and her husband and daughter immigrated to the USA sometime after 1851 and also Robert and Margaret Brown Gibbons also immigrated. I have found them in the 1860 census of Kentucky before moving to Indiana. That is all I know of the immigration. Robert Gibbons had several children named John b. 1831, Margaret b. 1833 Robert b. 1841, Thomas b. 1845. All at different small places in County Durham. They were coal miners. Do you have any connection with these Gibbons and Brown's? Kaye In a message dated 2/10/2010 12:03:35 P.M.
