Greetings all During the 1891 census, my g-grandparents, Francis EARLY and Lillian nee KING, were living at Park Villa, Cadder East, Lanarkshire. Francis was a retired civil servant. I like to believe that he'd been able to save a few bob and could put his feet up in a leafy suburb, away from the bustle of Glasgow. Can anyone tell me what Cadder East was like in 1891? Best wishes Frank Early South Africa
Frank See: http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/towns/townhistory2806.html The text is an extract from a Gazeteer published between 1882 and 1885. It mentions a Roman Fort. Apparently this site is, or was recently, occupied by a factory (Marley Tiles) and some excavation work has been going on there, without a great deal of success according to another reference to Cadder that I saw in my Google search.
