G'day Tricia, I too have spent a couple of years looking for a Walter Paterson I believe mine became a Marine engineer or Locomotive builder. He was born in Peebles 1831 but I think he went to Leeds then Glasgow building Locomotives before he went to sea as a marine engineer. His 2 older Brothers migrated out here to Australia 1854.
