Thank you for this info Des. Your work re: the Poor Relief Records has helped so many of us and it is much appreciated. Following some of my Lanarkshire ancestors back, some lived for a time in West Lothian (Whitburn; Linlithgow). Do you have any knowledge of those poor relief records or what repository one might consult to search for them? Irene O'Brien, Senior Archivist at Glasgow City Archives, gave a talk on Glasgow Poor Law records at the SAFHS Annual Conference two years ago. She told us then that Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen had all disposed of their Poor Law records many years ago, before family history research had become so popular. The Glasgow records are a marvelous resource which are well worth consulting because they give an insight into the family life of those applying for Poor Law assistance. Iain McKenzie Glasgow
