    3. Hi Frank Wondered if you have seen this booklet which is available from National Archives, Amazon, etc at around 3 pounds. Local Census Listings 1522-1930 Holdings In The British Isles by Jeremy Gibson & Mervyn Medlycott Third Edition This is the info National Archives says about it. "There are an unexpected quantity of 'quasi-censuses' pre-dating the decennial national census, whose records survive in unexpected quantity. They include locally retained census enumeration lists made for 1801-1831 which included names of individuals, and many others in earlier centuries. For the first time these are comprehensively listed for the whole of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands." I haven't seen it myself so don't know how good it is. The can be purchased (very reasonable) from the Lanarkshire Family History Society. My question is this however. The Church of Scotland directed their clergy to take these census'. Evidently some did some did not. Some were destroyed and some were not. Some are in private collections some are not. SOME ARE PUBLIC, SOME ARE NOT! It would be very helpful for the study of Scottish genealogy if we had a list of the 1821 and 1783 census records that are actually available. I do apologize that this question goes beyond the borders of Lanarkshire however does such a list exist and if so where. Thank you Frank Easton Sherwood Park, +24c
