    3. Interesting that several of these "catch up" records deal with men trying to avoid military service due to age. Jim Bundy Page 54 1767 James Baillie Hartwoodhill and Janet Steel his Lawful Spouse had a son born there upon the sixteenth day of April and Baptized Named John Baillie At Fortissat the 20th day of Octr one Thousand seven Hundred and Ninety Nine years Before William Meek of Fortissat Esqr one of His Majesties Justices of the peace for the County of Lanark Compeared Andw Baillie in Easter Fortissat who set forth that his Brother John Baillie vintner in Braxburn Parish of Uphall had been entered upon the List of those liable to be called upon for Militiamen in terms of the late amended act of Parliament that h the said John Baillie was above the age liable to be Balloted upon as such and that he Caused examine the Baptism Register of the Parish to authenticate the same; but that the Registration of his age could not be found which laid him under the necessity of adducing the following Witnesses to prove the same viz Janet Steel in Easter Fortissat his mother who compeared and made oath that he her said son John was Thirty Two years of age upon the sixteenth day of April last Past and that this is truth as she shall answer to God; But declares she cannot Write Signed Samuel Meuros Clk Wm Meek J P Eodem Die also Compeared Jean Waddell alias Steel spouse of Thomas Steel of Park-head who made oath that he the said John Baillie was born upon the sixteenth day of April in the year one Thousand Seven Hundred and sixty seven and that this is truth as he shall answer to God, But declares she cannot write Signed Samuel Meuros Clerk William Meek J P Compeared also Thomas Steel of Park-head who made oath that the said John Baillie was born in Month of April Seventeen Hundred and sixty Seven but cannot Condescend upon the day of the month and that this truth, as he shall answer to God Signed Thomas Steel William Meek J P 1767 John Main carrier and Tenant in Dyke and Agnes Auld his lawful spouses had a Son born there upon the Sixth day of Feby and Baptized at Bathgate by the Revd Mr Hall Minisr of the associate Congregation there Named William Main At Fortissat the Seventeenth day of Septmr Eighteen Hundred years in presence of William Meek of Fortissat Esqr one of His Justices of the Peace for the County of Lanark Compeared Page 55 Agnes Ferguson in Dyke and Jane Chalmers in Bridge and who having both been Solemnly Sworn Deponed that it was Consistent with their knowledge that the said William Main is Thirty four years of age against the 6th day of Feby next viz Agnes Ferguson Deponed as above and Jane Chalmers that at the time of her fathers death, now 30 years ago, William Main was able to go betwixt his father house and hers, and deliver a message the distance about a quarter of a Mile And that this is Truth as they shall both answer to God But both declare they cannot Write Signed Saml Meuros Clk William Meek J P 1734 Andrew Clark of Wesr Moffat a Child called John born the 19th Feby last and Baptized the April 11 1733 Thomas Marshall in Muirhead a Child called David born the 29th July 1734 Thomas Ferguson a child called Alexander born the 10th day of this Instant vizt Jany 1734 James Bryce in Blairdenhill a child called Christian born the 7th day of Septmr last Baptized the 14th Octr
