The important question is, did Archibald Sr die in Scotland? If you think that he did, go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and invest in a few credits. Use six credits to look for Margaret's death. It will be indexed under both her maiden and her married name. The death certificate will tell you where she died, the names of her parents, and whether or not Archibald died before her. Use this information to narrow the search for Archibald's death certificate, which will cost you another six credits and should tell you the names of his parents. You may need to restrict the search for the death certificate in the indexes to get the number of results down to one page (25 results or fewer). Do this by putting a minimum age of say 20 in the search box, and bear in mind that he must have been born before about 1835 to be old enough to marry in 1851. This should narrow the search down to a manageable number. Good luck! Anne

    3. Hi Jayne I think I have found Margaret living with her 2 sons in Kilwinning, Ayrshire in 1861. No sign of Archibald. Did he die before 1861? According to the death index on the Scotlands People website, the deaths of 5 Archibald Fullertons were registered from 1855 to 1861: 1855, age 22 (mother's maiden name LANG) registered in the district of Milton in Glasgow 1855, age 46 (mother's maiden name FULLARTON) registered in Kilbride, Bute 1858, age 40 (mother's maiden name STEWART) registered in Kilbride, Bute No age or mother's surname is given for the other 2 Archibalds. One of those deaths was registered in 1859 Kilwinning, Ayrshire (where Margaret was living in 1861). If the 1859 Kilwinning death was that of your Archibald Fullarton, the death registration should give the names of his parents, including the maiden name of his mother (assuming the informant knew the names). The image may be downloaded from the site which is a pay site. 3. Hi again Jayne I had a few spare credits on Scotlands People so decided to look at a couple of death certificates. Catherine FULLARTON born 1859, who Anne mentioned in her earlier email, died in Kilwinning on 8 January 1861, aged 15 months. Cause of death was gastro-enteritis. However I looked at the certificate to find out if her father was still alive. He was named on the death certificate as Archibald FULLARTON, coal miner, deceased. The informant was Alexander DUNSE, Uncle, of Annick Lodge, Irvine, Ayrshire. So I looked at the death certificate for the Archibald FULLARTON who died in Kilwinning in 1859 (see my earlier email); and it was 'your' Alexander. He died on 4 November 1859 aged 49. He had been suffering from dropsy due to heart disease. His parents were named as Alexander FULLARTON, fisherman, and Jean McGECHIE. The informant was once again Alexander DUNSE, brother-in-law, of Annick Lodge, Irvine. Archibald was buried in Kilwinning Church Yard. If the age on his death certificate is right, Archibald Fullarton would have been 41 when he married Margaret McKillop which suggests that he may have been married before. Alexander DUNSE married Margaret FULLARTON in 1852 in Old Monkland. According to the 1861 Census, Margaret DUNSE (Fullarton) was born abt 1828 in Kilhine, Argyllshire. (I don't recognise the place name). I will send you the two images off-list. Rhoda
