    3. Good morning Listers, I have joined the List hoping SKS can assist me with a John Harvie CHRISTIE, who became a Judge. John Harvie CHRISTIE was the son of John CHRYSTIE (CHRISTIE) and Susan (Susannah) HARVIE (HARVEY). John and Susan married in Glasgow, Lanarkshire on 26th January, 1766. Thier eldest son John Harvie CHRISTIE was born on 26th March 1768 in Carnath. John Harvie CHRISTIE was the second of five children, Elizabeth b. 1766, John Harvie b. 1768, Janet b. 1769, William b. 1772 and Thomas Christie b. 1774. Thomas the youngest of the family went on to become a Surgeon and studied at the University of Aberdeen, where he earned his Medical Degree. Thomas entered the service of the East India Co. He was a Surgeon in the Regiment at Trincomalee in 1797, Superintendant of the Military hospital and head of a small pox hospital, introducing the vaccination for smallpox in Ceylon in 1802. Thomas married Mary Isabell TOLFREY in Ceylon circa 1803 and they had 10 children, 7 boys and three girls. All the boys except one had distinguished Military careers. The eldest John Frederick CHRISTIE, became a Minister of the Church. Dr. Thomas CHRISTIE's eldest brother Judge John Harvie CHRISTIE went out to Mauritius in 1813. On the Slave Register of the former British Colonies, it states that John Harvie CHRISTIE had between 1 - 335 slaves and was still in Mauritius in 1826 owning a plantation. I know nothing further about John and I am hoping that someone on the List may know something about his life. If he married? If he did, who did he marry? Did they have children? Did he ever return to Scotland? Where and when did he die? Regards, Janice Belrose - Sydney Australia.
