The area shown as the Highlands on the map on the attached link appears to include all of Perthshire. When driving up to Oban from Edinburgh, I used to 'feel' that I was in the Highlands when we got to Crianlarich. On the other hand, when travelling from Edinburgh to Inverness, Pitlochry seemed to mark the line. The city of Perth doesn't seem either Highland or Lowland to me! I grew up in Perthshire. Perth was always called the Gateway To The Highlands. Perth has always been known as the gateway to the Highlands but in the 18th century the Highlands included all of the Trossachs and anywhere north-west of Stirling. Aberdeenshire, Angus and Kincardine have never been considered part of the Highlands.
